Mountain Biking

Through Bikeactive it's £3350. Direct from Commençal it's a shade over £2900.
Stupid Euro just got more expensive, it seems.

Not sure how much a Bird would be. I'm guessing about £2850 with the bits I've asked for, but I could be way wrong.

Guide RS brakes rather than the R
Nicer (Ben said and I agreed, but slightly heavier and cheaper) wheels
The nicer finishing kit, but I'm not sure what exactly it had.
RS Monarch Plus Debonair (upgrade)
Pike RCT3 Solo Air (not sure if that made a difference)
The rest is standard Sram X1 stuff

I forget if there's anything else.

Meta has... well, whatever it has on the WC version

Hmmm I wish I knew they done the RS Plus.

I don't understand why they don't just design their website in a way that allows you to pick these upgrades and see the price immediately.

Finishing kit will be Atlas rather than Turbine I'd imagine. Solo air is standard anyway. Should still keep it under £3k I'd guess.

Hmm good point about the external cabling. I didn't really like that either.
How long have you had your meta, and did you ride it before you bought?
Did you try anything else to compare it to?

No I just ordered it online from direct sales without even sitting on one, a bit of a risk but there was a return period if I hated it.

I would buy it from a UK seller as cow mentioned though, the guys at commencal are a bit wet regarding cs!

Hmm yeah. Well that's a concern. Murphy's law will apply to me, if it's going to apply to anyone ;)

But UK sellers are £400 more expensive, which sucks donkey pole.

Call Bikeactive, insist on discount - easy. I know Rob (Owner of Bikeactive) fairly well and he's always given discounts. Did so for itchabod crane on here too.

hmmm you think he'd be good for a decent price on a spitfire?

thinking of ordering black XL 26" drops (bolt through) with no shock
most places want £1300 but would be nice to get somink off

cow - sell me on doing it :p im having trouble persuading myself it will make a big change

is the XL going to be too big for the fun stuff (im 6'2) and also not too much of a slog on xc still?

is my 150mm fork too little for it too? (dont want to buy a new fork yet or bother upgrading its travel)

I mean they try hard and are polite, but in my case they insisted they hadn't recieved my payment even though the money had been sitting in their bank account for the best part of two weeks, and I had to phone their bank to convince them otherwise. :D

For Spitfires, call Mark Harris at Lovelo cycles and tell him I (Deon .. not supercow :p) sent you his way ... he will do you a deal. Tell him you're half chinese too just like him and to do it for a brotha! :D

150mm is by far not too little for the bike, the difference really is negligible. A good mate of mine runs his that way, rides it more than his DH bike at the moment (and everything in between)

He rode his Dh bike yesterday and regretted the decision, the spitty's that capable. It's never going to be the lightest bike around, but it climbs exceptionally well, and carries its weight so very well. It wont be boring or cumbersone on the tight twisty stuff in my opinion, but you might think otherwise. You quickly adjust the way you ride with longer bikes (lean into a corner earlier for example). Still reckon you're definitely an XL and not a L

Commencal?

That spitty.

Seen one of your mates had one at BPW, or maybe a Rune. Seemed to be very popular at BPW, I just couldn't justify the cost over the Aeris. Otherwise I reckon it'd have been my top choice.

I've been thinking about the Aeris when I had a quick go of Begbie's in BPW the other week...

It felt very foreign!! As in awfully long, coming from my 26" Shan it felt like a bus! It was a Large IIRC and whilst so are my Intense and Shan frames being Large it felt weird...

Are all 650B / 27.5" bikes long? I'm worried now about if I order an Aeris I'll hate it..

What you think? Am I being overly cautious?

Meta vs Aeris vs Spitfire vs ???

The reach will be longer than the Shan, as it was in the Zero too.

Most popular bikes now have similar reach in comparison to the Aeris. It's a shame my shock was knackered then too. But it just feels planted, and totally different to the Zero. I'm no pro rider or even that fast, but the Zero felt jumpy and more lively where the Aeris feels like it just wants to smash through anything that stands in it's way. It feels less washy than the Zero too, where the Zero I felt like I could reach the limits of the tyres more often.

It's quite crap comparing it to the Zero really but apart from the Pitch it's the only long term test of any other bike I've had.

The reach on the spitty for the large is less than the Aeris too so it should feel less long. But yeah just looking at the reach of the Shan, the Aeris will feel huge!

One had this spitty in question, the other had a silver rune ( Spitty >> Rune btw :p)

Haha, welcome to the bike industry, enjoy your stay.

By the way, if a company says your bike will be here / ready in 2 more weeks, triple that at the very least.
