Mountain Biking

! As in awfully long, coming from my 26" Shan it felt like a bus! It was a Large IIRC and whilst so are my Intense and Shan frames being Large it felt weird...

I ride a large frame Shan and a medium SB-66 for a similar feeling of reach. Yeti were a bit ahead of the game for this long/low/slack thing!

Why does no one who sells bikes ever answer their phone or e-mails?

Bird?

Good luck there, phoning them is better. I tried the whole email thing, because I don't get a phone signal. When my shock bust and I phoned the whole thing was a lot easier.

A week mountain biking in Scotland! Based in avimore on the side of loch morlich , Glenlivit tomorrow, Fort bill Wed, Thursday unsure, possibly wolftrax , love being back in the motherland!

Had a reply from Ben @ Bird - price wasn't much more at all. I think I'll order one.
But I want a blue one :(

Why the sad face, bike buying days are the good kind of days?

Because ben thinks he sold the last one last week, so I'll have to wait for the next batch which is sometime in June, and that's like... decades away.
They're all nice colours, really... I never cared about bike colour before, tbh.

I'm sure I won't :) It'll be winter then. I want one NOW. Did I mention I'm impatient. I'll probably just end up getting whatever they have.

I do need a new helmet though. Mine's a bit scraped but hasn't had any full impacts - but it's old and needs replacing anyway.
I don't know if I need/want a full face one. I don't really care if I look like a tw@ in one, but I would look more stupid with no teeth and a broken jaw. I bought that cheap one from CRC the other day but it's too big, and reading more about it's not actually certified for anything serious so probably wouldn't offer much protection anyway.

I was looking at a convertible one with a removable face bit but I guess that's not as strong. Mostly I ride traily things but am going to move to things with a lot more rocks in them, and I am still not terribly good at such things, so foresee multiple fallings off.

I think I could also do with some knee/elbow(?) pads... at least knee ones. What's good but not too bulky, doesn't move, and offers good protection, including to the sides of the knees, and has good ventilation?

Anyone know ?

Don’t take this as advice, just a statement really :p … if I were in your position, I would buy whatever other colour you like, that they have in stock (particularly because you like the others too)
As pointed out in this thread, I have gone through a fair few bikes and so have a lot of my mates. ETAs in the industry is the most inaccurate and frustrating experience you can ever encounter.

My mate that bought a Transition Patrol, waited 6 months for his, after expecting it for no longer than a month. You call the distributor etc up, they say “2 more weeks”. Call after those 2 weeks, then it’s another “2 more weeks”. It’s like some sick in joke or something. Bird might be entirely different, particularly because there’s no middlemen.

How sure is Ben that manufacturing is on target?

edit: saw you posted since I wrote this: Raceface Ambush Kneepads I'm loving. If they die, I'd just buy another pair. You won't find the perfect pad that is plenty airy and protective, but these are fairly lightweight and I personally don;t notice them when I'm riding. The Scott Grenade pro 2 is supposed to be excellent too, though not tried them myself. The raceface Ambush elbows are class, definitely get them. Raceface's sizing charts is quite accurate, so defininitely check that if you decide to get them.

Bell super 2r is a convertable lid that seems to be better than those godawful things of the past, though I still think they look gash :p

I'm not sure about MFG on target regarding Bird...

However Rob @ Bikeactive says he'll do me a nice discount, which is nice. So there's that...

But then internal cabling - but that said... I could just buy a park tools internal cabling tool .. that looks quite good.

When I wanted a Blue Zero I got given two ETAs from different people there and the one on the website wasn't listed either.

Also IMO the blue doesn't look quite as good IRL, go for the black. Kinda wish I'd got the black, but tbh the colour of a bike isn't something I really care about.

Ah for god's sake, just go on and buy both bikes! :D

Well, that's a 2-day uplift booked for Bike Park Wales in August! :D :D

Anyone recommend the best lines to have a crack at?

Just watched a video of the A470 and that looks ace... might need to do some work on my upper body strength though!

I know these feels Jono, I'm not skint but I need to make sure I can get the best possible thing for the money I'm spending. I put it down to being a tight jock. I went on a whim with the aeris though!

Just do it, you won't regret it. Colour is irrelevant when riding anyway. Just get a half shell helmet. How often do you fall on your chin anyway? Most of the time your hands are out. Unless your uplifting a lot of course.

Matt - no need to worry about line choice! Two days will give you plenty of runs :)

No need for specific work on the arms / upper body, unless you have peashooters like Juggy. (diddums, his arms hurt after a day at BPW)

Best thing for armpump, is don't blinking hang on so hard! :D
