Thanks, i hadn't seen that, it was £2099 when i last looked. I have actually gone through the checkout for the jeffsy one, but i chose the pay by bank transfer option, so haven't paid yet. I could possibly email them and ask if i can cancel and swap it for the other.

I do prefer the colour scheme of the Jeffsy 2 even though thats probably a silly reason to go for it over the other. Hmm, i'll have a proper look at both and try to decide.

Looks like you get SRAM X1 over the GX on the Two, and the next up Guide RS brakes over the Guide R's. Oh and an E13 dropper over the RS reverb stealth. Slightly better raceface finishing kit (which you won't notice any difference over) and it's about 1lb lighter according to the stats.

And of course you won't have the cost/faff of converting to 1x on it :D
 
The Sram X1 rear deraileur seems to have some bad reviews as well as the E13 dropper post on CRC, but overall I think it might be worth the extra. I have sent them an email as theres no way to cancel the order, so will just have to hope there is still stock tomorrow.

I have always had Shimano Brakes and gears so I haven't a clue about Sram. Hopefully it is comparable to the Shimano XT I have on my current bike.
 
The main difference that you can't 'pull' with your finger to shift up on SRAM, it's push for both up and down levers. The SRAM brakes are generally known to have much better modulation than Shimano, they may feel less powerful as they don't 'bite' as fiercely, but the power is still there. The RS models have the swinglink which is a cam that reduces the deadzone so they will bite a bit quicker than ones without. Coming from a motorbike background, feel is much more important than outright power for me! :D

SRAM X1 is a couple of years old now, it's sort of been replaced by GX Eagle and X01 Eagle, I'm hoping the 2018 Jeffsy comes with GX eagle, if they do then a carbon Jeffsy will go onto my possible list of FS bikes next year.
 
my cycle to work scheme being a bit rubbish I've had to use Halfords. signed up just waiting for the paperwork etc to come through. Max is 1k and they won't let me go over and add into it so going to get the £900 Boardman FS, gets good reviews on bikeradar. I'm going to go for a 18inch size although their size guide says I need the next size up but sod that don't want a tall bike. I don't have much left from when I used to go riding so need ideas on the following:

I use the Topeak Hexus 2 multitool as it's got loads of features plus it's small. Mudguards are the Enduroguards which are easy enough to attach using cable ties. Bikestand is one I got from Aldi or Lidl and it does a good job for around £30. Gloves are Endura MT500 2, been using these through summer and winter with no problems. Hands stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

Cheers. Dislocated my shoulder too many times. Originally by crashing hard at Forest of Dean, but despite lots of physio it got more and more prone to repeating in very minor situations. I think the last time I did it I was throwing stones in the sea with my kid.

The first year of my being off the bike was me going through the process of getting it sorted, jumping through hoops and waiting lists and so on. Last time I rode I popped it on the take-off for a 9 foot gap, and it's just pointless and painful trying when that can happen. I've also done it in wheels-down situations just riding through compressions and stuff, I really couldn't ride offroad at all.

6 weeks ago I had a "Latarjet procedure" after an earlier look at doing just keyhole soft tissue repair was aborted on account of there being too much bone damage going on (an engaging Hill-Sachs defect, I think they called it) so it wouldn't have worked. Now, a bit of bone from just below the clavicle has been relocated - along with three muscle attachments - to elsewhere in my shoulder and this will sort it out, so they tell me. I stopped reading/asking for more detail around that point, the diagrams were getting a bit scary. Apparently it's more commonly done to rugby players and boxers and as such is a reliable and robust solution. I'll lose a bit of range of movement on external rotation, which is fine by me. So, the second year is me doing nine months physio and not being allowed contact sports (they call MTB a contact sport, I checked!) for a year. Then again! When I saw my surgeon again a couple of weeks ago, he said six months might be possible if all goes well, so there's hope. Gonna be hitting the gym and road bike in the lead up!
 
Sorry to keep asking questions, i should probably make an account on pinkbike where they have a big YT thread :o. I'm still debating about which YT bike to get due to the rear shock not having lockout on the cheaper version. Is the fact its the new metric sizing going to affect availability in future if I ever decide to upgrade? The rear shock is 230mm x 60mm, which seems to be quite scarce when looking on CRC.

And to throw a spanner in the works the Vitus carbon bike I was originally looking at has one back in stock, but I think i'm sold on the YT now.

metric shocks are a new thing so stock wont be fully dispersed yet
its annoying tbh that SRAM are messing about with the normal sizes (for no particular reason) but it tends to be the old standard users that lose out rather than the new ones, like people with 26" wheels or non boost hubs etc etc its the old standard that gets left behind, not the new one
also CRC are very "batchy" with things like shocks, they tend to have loads or none at any one time
 
Thanks, thats good to know, this frame should be future proofed with the rear boost hub and metric shock then. Hopefully these new standards stick around for as long as 26" wheels have and don't keep changing. I tend to keep my bikes for years so would hate to try and upgrade a part and its no longer supported. I'll go for the cheaper bike and then if the lack of rear lockout does pose a problem at least i can upgrade it in future.

Now its just a case of paying by international bank transfer, but the details they have given me is for a bank located in the UK (UniCredit Bank AG, London Branch) :confused:. My bank is asking which country to send the payment to, but i'm not sure if it will be UK or Germany. I'd have preferred to pay by Paypal but they charge £60+ for the privilege and that's on top of the £50 delivery and £16 box lol. An international bank transfer should be £22 from RBS, which is still a lot.
 
Honestly, as a guy in my local bike shop said to me, I don't think you'll disappointed by any current FS bike, I'm willing to bet you'd probably use the pedal mode a couple of times, forget to turn it back to open as the top of a descent and never use it again :D


With the Boost wheels there'll be non-boost ones around for ages, but it's good to have something current rather than something that will probably be phased out quite soon. Boost and metric shocks are both only just coming as standard on most bikes so you're in at the right point.

Agreed re: rear lockout. Only ever bother using it for long slog climbs, and even then I'm not sure whether it really makes that much of a difference!
 
the only time i use lockout is on fireroad climbs / roads etc (RS monarch plus)

the climb leaver on the Cane creek shock i had, was however far more useful, because you could infinite adjust, you could get it exactly on the right spot to stiffen up for climbling and still be supple
it was amazing (shame the shocks are completely unreliable however)

- also i keep thinking about cotic rockets, is it just me or do they look awesome? (and fun)
 
Bike paid for a few days ago, thanks again for all the help and advice :). Just need to get some pedals now, are the new DMR V12 pedals any good, they're currently on offer for £47.99 on CRC for the magnesium body version? Or is it worth stumping up the extra for Vaults?

The superstar nanos used to be highly rated, but it looks like they're discontinued now and the replacement doesnt have any reviews yet, so not sure whether to risk those.

I just got some well reviewed pedals. Steele, sold them to my mate. Superstar Nanos for me, I'll just have to hope the new ones are as good. So yeah go for Nanos, I'm sure they won't have made them worse.

I went for the al two in the end after hours of staring at both on the site :D. The Al one was probably the better deal, but I think the parts on the Al two should be good enough for my needs and the price saving + the better looking colour scheme for me pushed me to go for that one. I can always upgrade the groupset down the line to Shimano XT and sell the old parts if they aren't great, but i'm sure they will be fine. I'll definitely get some pics up when I get it.

@Begbie, yeah thats a good point, if anything they might have improved them. What didnt you like about the steele pedals? Just googled them and they look pretty decent.

I just couldn't get my foot on them right, with the superstars (even with pins missing) I never thought about what my feet where doing. But on the steeles, I just kept adjusting them to find a better position. My mate loves them, coming from some vaults (I think) though and PB gives them a good review.
 
They're heavy though unless you get a carbon one, the AL 6.0 is £2300 with GX eagle, pikes etc. But it's 14.7kg for a medium, pretty damn lardy!!

The Vitus Escarpe VRX 29 I was looking at before is also that sort of weight, but it's got a much beefier spec: E1700 wheels Vs m1900, and a Lyric over the pike.

Oh and the best specced CF 9.0 pro is the only one to come with narrow 25mm internal width rims and 2.4" rubber which is a little strange.
