Mourinho back to Chelsea? The managerial merry-go-round

If he does go back it'll be interesting to see if Lampard magically gets the new contract he's been waiting for all season? I suspect both Terry and Essien will be hopeful for recalls to the first team as well ;)

Essien is at RM permanently isn't he - not on loan from Chelsea?

Carrick
Nani
Anderson
Jones
Kagawa
Young
Valencia

I wouldn't disagree that Chelsea/MC have frittered a lot of cash away but there's about 6 midfielders/wingers in the above list still at the club and they can't all play at once.

Yes all the above are still at the club, but its pretty hard not to see at least two of those leaving at least in the summer - and even excluding that, given you are talking about upto four positions each game (you could argue upto 7 with subs) its not that hard to see why Utd (and many others) have over 6 midfielders on the books at the same time , with the amount of games they have to potentially play from Nov onwards (EPL, CC, FAC, CL) - its not that uncommon to play three different competitions within 2 or 3 weeks.

Strikers isn't that dis-similar (especially when a lot of games are played with one solo striker), with clubs commonly having 3 or 4 out and out strikers.

After the result on Sunday, I cant see Mourinho going anywhere else. If Chelsea had failed to get CL football, it would have been a far harder sell to get him back, but with the wind (and a lot of laughing) behind them, I cant see Spurs troubling them unfortunately. Whether this has any effect on the Bale situation Im not sure, I think he will stick where he is for another season at least

So, with all the rumours of Sir Alex retiring, do we think it's possible Mourinho will get his 'dream' job managing Man United?

On the one hand, he's a proven manager who has enjoyed success with virtually every club he's managed. On the other, he has never stayed put for an extended period and developed a squad for the long term - something that was key to sir Alex's success at Old Trafford.

The alternative seems to be Moyes. If you were on the Man Utd board, who would you rather have and why?

I'd rather have Mourinho than Moyes. Mourinho's style makes it a risk, but Moyes has no European experience and is not guaranteed to do well.

I can't see Mourinho happening though, and I think Moyes would be a bit of a mistake, but I'd certainly give him chance to prove me wrong.

It will be some snub to Chelsea fans if he goes to united, after they have built their hopes up singing his name etc. It will be pretty poor form on his part but I think he's using Chelsea as a lever to get to united.

I suppose it depends on Fergie, this is how fergie should go. No drawn out season waiting for retirement, just take people by surprise at the end of a successful campaign.

As gutted as I would be to see Fergie retire, I would laugh, a hell of a lot, at the dismay of Chelsea fans as he ditched them for us

It would be like one of those awkward movie clips where a guy (Chelsea fan) goes to hug someone, and the person just keeps walking past and hugs the person behind them (Utd fan) ;)

Rumours flying around that Pellegrini has agreed to take over. If that means Mancini has been sacked or he is walking I don't know.

I hope its not true, I just don't see him as being any kind of upgrade.

What I fear is that Txiki is wary that Mancini will oppose certain signings and how the club is run in terms of academy and playing style etc. Bringing in Pellegrini on his terms ensures that he is a bit of a yes man and so he will have complete control.

Some media going with the story Pellegrini will bring Isco with him which would be a fantastic signing.

I think you might be in the wrong thread :p

Sounds very much like Mancini is gone (whether he wins the FA Cup or not) and Pellegrini is in for Man City.

Next season is going to be interesting, quite the shake up.

New manager at Man Utd & a new manager at Man City; dare I say everything is falling into place nicely for Mourinho?
