Hi all. New to the forums and hopefully have posted this in the correct place.
Unfortunately my first post isn't the type I like to start out with. I have to ask for some help straight off the bat.
I really need some help with a problem that is driving me mental.
I am having a crazy problem with mouse stuttering in my games.
It's happening in all my games: left 4 dead, team fortress 2, UT3 and bioshock.
To try and describe as accurately as possible what happens on screen is this:
as soon as I use the mouse to turn or arc around a corner and to some extent
look up and down the game stutters/judders badly enough to make the games quite
unplayable. Its like a lagging effect with the game getting stuck then catching up. It's fine if I just move around using the keyboard.
I feel that I have tried just about everything possible to fix this problem
and am now at my wits end.
I've had this since the day I built the machine a year and a half ago.
My system spec is as follows:
8800gtx
Corsair 620w PSU
E6850 - oc 3.6
4gig ddr2 800mhz ram
Asus P5K Premium
Vista 64 home premium
Things that I have tried that have helped a bit are:
Enabling triple buffering
Enabling multicore suport
Enabling Vsync
disabling multicore in source games
Things that I have tried that have done nothing:
Tried two different monitors
Tried various resolutions and lower graphics settings
Full format and reinstall
Tried games with sound card disabled
Tried games with no background apps running
Tried games running on different hard disks one 10,000rpm one 7200rpm
Running cpu at stock
Tried 4 different mice all wired and optical
Updated all drivers for everything
Used old drivers for everything
Tried various usb ports
Tried various mouse pads and surfaces
Set usb controller in bios to highspeed/fullspeed
Tried all settings for maximum pre rendered frames in nvidia control panel
Patched all games
Enabled/disabaled mouse acceleration
Disabled all mouse pointer schemes
Increases page pool memory
Increased ram from 2 gig to 4 gig
Run memtest over night
Run cpu stability test over night
Run fur burn in apps on gpu for 3 hours
Defragged/chkdisk both HDD
Checked cabling and PSU
Tried 2 keyboards
In source games set max fps to 60
Tried various monitor refresh rates
Noted all operating temps for all parts to be well under threshold.
Tried vista with all updates applied
Tried vista with no updates applied (even SP1)
Things that make the problem worse:
Enabling mouse smoothing in any game
Disabling vsync
After trying all this I haven't yet found a solution, but I am convinced it is
mouse related. The reason for this is by chance I decided to plug in an xbox 360 controller to try. Guess what. It's flawless. No stutter EVER even with
multicore enabled.
WHY CROW. WHY?
Please if anyone can help me solve this problem I'd be most grateful or even
suggest something else to try that I've missed.
Thanks for listening.
