Move to SSD?

Why 3? One will be fine? Raid won't support trim and your only gonna achieve sata2 speeds on that mb

Pair it with big hdd for storage

Raid 0 isn't limited to 3Gb/s, it's limited to the throughput capabilities of the chipset. For example my two Corsair F40 40GB drives, both Sata 3Gb/s in Raid 0 acheive close to 460MB/s throughput.

And also Trim is a luxury that is easily done without, and there are plenty of software alternatives to clean ssd's, not that it even needs to be done given they have IOPS over 100k these days and access times sub 1ms.

Not to mention that a single 60GB drive is all but useless with Windows 7 given that it will eat up 25GB+ just for the basic installation. Throw in BF3 at another 12GB, maybe some left for dead and skyrim and BAM, no more room.

I would suggest this too, I'm sure I heard that TRIM will be available in RAID sometime soon though.

I disagree here, my Win 7 install is only 18GB plus you can always move your page file & user settings to a mechanical drive to save space.

You should really consider the 64GB Crucial M4 over the Corsair one that you linked as it's only £3 for 4GB more space though if you have £200 to spend just get the 128GB version anyway.

just buy a bigger single ssd,can always add another later on,60gb isnt enough really unless your using it for a caching drive which only z68 support atm,id go for a 120gb ssd

and that model ssd your thinking of uses inferior asynchronous nand, you want one that uses synchronous nand

Im confused as what I should go for.

I thought origionally about getting a single 120gb ssd, im not overly concerned about storage space as I have an external drive, it was more the speed i was interested in and surely raid would benefit this?

Perhaps two of these intel 60gb's in raid??

Or a single 120gb intel...

Like I said, the externals there for bigger storage, and I wanted an SSD to use for windows, games and programs. ive managed just with 80 Gb for the past few years on my raptor, but the extra space (120gb) would come in handy.

Thanks for the input so far, please keep it coming.

I went for a 120GB SSD and I'm glad I did, with W7, all my programs, BFBC:2 and BF3 on there, I'm using around 70-75GB, which gives me a comfortable amount left still, the rest goes on a 1TB spinner.

Why would you move your page file to a spinner? Many games are still coded to specifically use the page file, not to mention Windows 7 loves to hog it too. Having it on a spinner always results in micro stutter.

Prices of SSD's are now such that you are able to get two smaller drives for the price of an equivalent larger drive, with the added benefit of faster throughput. Not getting two is plain stupid, and buying based on branding is retarded in itself given they are all buying NAND flash from the same companies with exception to Intel who constructs their own (and sells the poorer casts elsewhere).

Yes the Intel 520 series are the one to go for. Also they are are SATA 2 & 3.

By all means use a hard disk, but for the day to day stuff like windows and a favourite game or two - use the SSD.
