Moved over to the dark-side

its OK I was not listening anyway I have owned black cars for years and am sick of fighting a losing battle with swirl marks.

I have the 2 seater sports car covered with a MK3"black" MX5.

Caravanning is great gives you a chance to relax away from the day today bustle of everyday life which is just what i need.

I'd rather hire a cottage or log cabin, but whatever floats your boat!

I dont see why the white is so hated actually, hard to judge on a photo but looks OK to me

In some ways these are a better car than the 5 series. I had one for a long weekend, the sport one with the bigger wheels and it was superb. It rode MUCH better than my 5 series and also handled nicely for such a big tank. The 5 has also got so big now that the difference between both is very small and I think the 7 series is a really good car.

That's why the 5 GT is so good. Based on the 7 platform in a 5 package.
Yup. Still land-yacht proportions though.
Whilst I appreciate the 5 GT, I'd personally take a normal 5 over it.

One has been sitting on my parents' drive for almost 2 years and I've only ever had the urge to take the keys and go for a drive once. Not my cup of tea at all really.
As a passenger it's another story entirely!

The figures below show the white Audi's (picked as they tend to be bought by trendies) on autotrader by year which should give an idea of the popularity of white cars.

Upto 1 year - 442,
1-2 - 247
2-3 - 298
3-4 - 288
4-5 - 78
5-7 - 28
5-10 - 4
over 10 - 22

The peak will be reached very soon and just like last time it won't be a case of being a few hundred quid less than a better coloured car, but a massive difference measured in thousands, especially so on something so large.

Oh, I see, people buy white because it's trendy, not because coloured (metallic) paint is a £500 option and they're already financing it to the hilt?* ;)

*Yes I know this doesn't apply in the OP's case

I disagree - our car park is only full of company white and black Audi's and BMW's (200+). Simply because those are the free colours. (No one chooses red)

If you did the same analysis on black cars the trend would be similar.

You disagree and then go on to agree with him? He was using sarcasm to make the same point.

That styling....sack the design team.

Saying that, beyond the E39/E46 most BMW look terrible.

Bet a drives like a dream though, so makes up for it.

I wondered if this was true so checked and it's not. Figures below (Audi again)

Upto 1 year - 722
1-2 - 220
2-3 - 551
3-4 - 971
4-5 - 762
5-7 - 833
7-10 - 449
over 10 - 175

It may partially be true that white is chosen as it's free. but the main reason is it's currently trendy and easy to keep looking ok (or rather no worse looking) with minimal care when washing.

Have you any evidence to assert that people buy it mostly because it's trendy? Where are you getting your figures from?

Regarding looking good without washing, if the white cars I see every week are anything to go by that's certainly not the case; they seem to pick up muck especially at the back more visibly than even black cars. Silver is where it's at for concealing muck.

Figures are taken from Autotrader so should give a good idea of the market. I'd say the evidence is that white has only become popular again within the last 3-4 years, despite the fact it was available as a no cost option before.

Silver went through it's popular phase 5 years ago but is now often seen as a bit boring. I'm not saying white cars look good without washing, just that you can just stick it through a car wash or use some Albanians to get it clean without the paint work looking awful unlike most other colours.

I cant possibly fathom why someone who is obviously well off and appreciates the finer things in life would want to holiday in that.

I spent a lot of my childhood holidays in a caravan too, so I know what its like.

Still, nice car - interior picture loading now and it is lovely inside

Caravans are awesome, even if I end up loaded one day I'll still be holidaying in one.

Hearing the ice cold wind and rain outside, snuggled up with a hot chocolate watching hardcore Asian pr0n. Om nom nom.

I kid, EastEnders. :p
