Movember 2010

So you can't have a bit of a laugh when raising money for charity? The ultimate result is people know about it which is good, which means next time it comes around more people are likely to chip in. We are a grumpy young man aren't we?! :(

Agree with Freefaller, I'm a teacher and the amount of students who have asked what it's about (when not taking the michael) and learnt what prostate cancer is has to be a good thing. If I was doing a charity bungee jump or something, it wouldn't have happened.

Of course you can, thats part of the appeal. My issue is just that its possibly the easiest thing in the world, not shaving. Combine that with the way some people seem to be dealing with it - not just in my place of work, friends have said it's been the same elsewhere - its not off to the best start as far as I've seen.

In fairness that's quite a specific situation, kids have a natural curiosity. In normal adult life, you wouldnt ask a stranger.

You're such an old man iaind.

yeah I know I know, 25 going on 55, always been the way.

I don't want to come across as a miserable sod and i dont want people to misunderstand me. I applaud anyone for even wanting to do something for charity, especially cancer charities, I just want people to realise that the effort and passion could be better directed.

As a good will gesture, as I've obviously evoked some hatred, I'd like to offer the following. If, at the end of Movember, the total raised was more than 50 quid per moustache then I was wrong - I'll donate £20 for everyone in this thread participating (with pictures). At current count, that's about £180 by the looks of things.

If I was right, and the people participating would have been better off just giving 50 quid each, illl still donate a round £100.

A lot of the Motors crew will get a good laugh at me tomorrow at the meet!

I'm not seeing any pictures!

I'll double the donation for yours, under the above offer, if you can get a decent donation from fox.

Of course, this is entirely alcohol fueled, but I'm a gent and I'll honour every penny.

God mines poop! Happily we've managed to raised over £300 at work and are having a shift 'tashe Piccy on tuesday to celebrate "the Great Shaving!".

My terrible attempt (shoddy webcam shot):

I don't agree with your views on it but you're perfectly entitled to hold them and it doesn't alter my opinion of you, I don't see why it would matter to anyone really. A very generous offer there and I'm sure Prostate Cancer UK will be very grateful for the extra money whatever way it turns out.

Last picture of the week before I get to moustache trimming tomorrow, unsurprisingly given my oft-noted inability to grow decent facial hair it hasn't changed much. I should have a little bit more money to go onto my page in the next few days so please don't do your final count just yet, I still need to send that first email round work asking them for cash. :)

Well as promised, and after this morning's mission of a shave, I give you my final efforts. I kept the beard for reasons unknown. And yes, it's ginger.

Granted mine wasn't totally within the beard rules but I was going for maximum silly 'stache. Raised £30 with a few more still to donate. I've also got my basketball team to commit to taking part next year as a Movember team :D

Mine yesterday. Nice to have my face back to be honest.

I think bonus points for the 70s style jumper and poloneck combo are deserved, looks a little bit old school footballer minus the dodgy perm.

Well done to all who've taken part and especially those who've put up pictures to show it too.

That's me put up all of my offline donations for the moment now, there may be a few more to come but I don't expect any huge changes to the final total.

It's been a week and a bit since this all finished so let's find out how we all did in the final totals and then we can know is iaind paying per moustache or giving the round £100 instead? :p

My final total seems to be £161 which seems respectable enough to me. :)
