Hey guys,

I've been a FF user for well over 3-4 years so this feel a bit weird, but I've heard good things about Chrome. These are the FF extensions I use and need a Chrome alternative for:

  • Firebug - Now this one is a bit of an issue as I use it to download streaming content on websites so if I can't do that then it's of no use. The "Lite" variation doesn't seem to be able to do that.

Also any suggestions? Anything that works with FlashGe, etc? Keep the suggestions coming ...

Chrome does have integrated developer tools which serve as a basic version of Firebug. But if you're looking for a Chrome extension that's as capable as Firebug, you're always going to be out of luck. Chrome extensions are very limited in what they can do - the more advanced features of Firebug just can't be implemented in Chrome.

I've found Chrome to have less lag and not hang as much as FF. The Inspect Element feature in Chrome is what I need as I can download the media files behind streaming content. Sadly Firebug though uglier does it better as you can right click and open a new tab to download it, in Chrome I have to copy the URL ...

Why do people 'choose' a browser.

I have my browser of choice (Chrome), but it isnt like I need to figure out where to spend my money. I have Opera, FireFox, Chrome, IE9 and Safari on all my machines.

If I need to use Firebug then I just load the page in FireFox, if I need to load something legacy then I use IE, if I feel like getting annoyed I use Safari.

Sadly Opera doesnt get much action (which is a shame because it is great).

There are two reasons to have a default browser and if you have those reasons then you are using either FF or Chrome because the reasons are:
1) Extensions
2) Bookmarks

For me the appeal for Chrome is that it's something new and fresh. Been using FF for so long that i wanted something different. Doesn't mean I wouldn't switch back though.

I feel like Chrome's scrolling is a bit heavier ironically than FF and the back button not having a tiny arrow for drop down does feel a bit off.

Chrome has been calling to me too, and similarly it's firebug that's keeping me tied to FF.

It's a shame there's no FB alternative as the latest versions have been getting less and less reliable and more buggy.
