Moving oop norf

I used to live in Slaithwaite (Slawit to the locals), and honestly I quite miss it. On the train line between Manc and Leeds, and I used to pay £400/m for a two bed terrace and I now pay over £1k for the same in Bath (not even a nice part of Bath).

Mostly I miss those big skies. It's something else standing on top of a windswept hill looking over the vast rugged beauty of Yorkshire. The people are friendly, albeit somewhat rough around the edges in some parts.

If I could get the same money I get down here, but live up north, I totally would.

The more I look in to this, the more I'm wondering why I live in London. Don't get me wrong, I love the place but I'm getting older and don't go to as many bars / clubs as I used to so I'm getting to the point where it's wasted on me.

We're currently paying £1575 for a 2 bed flat in Putney, before bills. I could rent a 4 bed detached house oop norf for that money!

I'm gonna start perusing our vacancy list a bit more, would love to buy before the year is out.
That's why we moved to the countryside. I still enjoy going into London but don't miss being there all the time. We have space and quiet!

I wish I could say the same but everybody round here has a yappy rat dog and the farm out the back has two working dogs that are housed outside.

Yes but you a large home that you have must still feel wonderful to get home too. And a bit of dog yapping surely isn't that bad? That said we have kids so probably as irritating for neighbours! :D

We have cows and sheep that make noise and some horses too but I far rather that than police sirens and cars.

No sheep here but cows and horses. Love the noises from them. The dogs are really bad though, it's because it's so contrasting. Such a sharp sound.
I do suspect kids zone you out to it!

It is great to get home to but I enjoy spending time in the garden and the back wall downstairs is pretty much just a bi-fold so we often have that open.

As I'm writing this one of the cows is getting all aggro  think it must be one with a new calf.

West and North of Leeds are good, South not so good and East is ok when you get out towards York.

As already mentioned, the train links are pretty good. The road network is poor and traffic is a big problem.

Ilkley and Harrogate are both great but they both command high prices (Harrogate very expensive). Lots of places in between are worth a look - Horsforth, Guiseley (I live here), Burley-in-Wharedale, Menston. Avoid Headingley which is full of students.

BD postcodes are much cheaper than LS postcodes but, for example, Baildon (BD postcode) is lovely and only a mile or so away from Guiseley (LS postcode).

Depends how close to Leeds you want to be, really.

Bird song! I couldn't believe how loud and constant it is when a) there's so many of them and b) there's no other noise to drown them out or disturb them. I'm not complaining at all, I'd rather hear bird song than the usual urban/city commotion.

We moved up north (proper north, like north north Scotland) from the south of England and it's highly unlikely we'd move back. The one downside is the weather, it's quite a bit cooler the further north you go.

Good luck on your move!

I always enjoy visiting London, nowhere else compares in the UK for liveliness. I have a few friends and relatives there who I see semi-regularly. However, I always leave thinking that was a great weekend, but couldn't for one moment fathom living there. Different strokes for different folks as always.

I feel exactly the same, and I grew up in North London.

Moved out of London 15 years ago never looked back, but I do like going back for weekends and visiting family etc.
