Hello all,

I've stayed at home for the first two years of university but I'm thinking about moving out next year. I just need to work out how much it costs to see if I can afford it.

Other than rent and ultilities, how much do you think it costs per week? E.g food, clothes, toilet roll, etc.

I can take a guess but because I've never moved out I don't really have a good idea how much food and things like would cost. I usually just buy my lunch and that's about it :P

depends what standards you hope to live too, Rent is definately on the up depending on where in the country you are and the type of area expect to pay 50 quid a week plus bills are reasonable provided you live with sane people who don't feel compelled to have the whole house in the mid 20's all day and night whilst running every electrical appliance known to man. Food and the rest could be anything from 5 to 100 pounds a week depending on you needs and lifestyle.

Move out you won't regret it! Contrary to poular belief your final year could be your best we spent more time ****ed up in our last year than we did our first and it was defo the best year at uni!

No swearing please! ~ Zefan.

It'll be at Liverpool. I already know how much rent and utilities will be because I'm looking at private halls. They're £65 a week and includes water, electric, insurance and broadband.

I used to spend £100 a week for my living expenses including bills, food and going out. :)

Dunno how realistic that is in London, I'm paying £120 a week for self-catered halls this year and I don't get the impression that rent will much cheaper next year.

Depends on the area, my gf is in a fourbed in surrey keys which is costing her about £410 a month excluding bills. That tends to be the killer when you move out of halls, it seems cheaper to start with but then you start getting gas and electric bills as well as water :(

Yep. Except now im not a student theres council tax on that and i go out at the weekend and spend around £100 instead of in the week.

This week im cutting out alcohol so should save a bit...

for a big Xmas all dayer and meal at akbars next sat :D

On one side you're potentially missing out on a lot, on the other as most people will tell you from a financial pov they never had it as good as living at home!

My friends pay £130 for rent alone in London :(

Heh, depends where you live. I lived around Oval, South London in a nice house with some friends for about £90 a week. :)

Then living expenses on top of that worked out to around another £100. So getting on for £200 a week in total.

think about everything you have and do whilst living at home and make a list of these things since (assuming you want to have them.do them when at uni) you will have to pay for them yourself.

you can spend £100 a week or £300 a week all in, it just depends how good your bugeting skills are or how much u like the lash. I have no control over myself and really struggle sometimes, going out 6 times a week clubbing and spending £300 a week.
