Moving over to PC gaming! need a build for around £1000

Dont think i have the confidence to build a PC from scratch!

The inside of a PC tower may seem like a complex tangle of cables and PCB boards, which it is, but as far as assembling individual components together is concerned it is really very straight forward stuff. All the components are increasingly made to be fool proof, so there is no chance of you putting anything in incorrectly or anything like that. If something doesn't fit somewhere, then it doesn't go there and if something does fit, then it probably does go there.

Would it help to watch a tutorial or find someone on the Forum in your area who is willing to help?

honosuseri linked me to a video showing someone building a unit and i have seen a couple before. My main issue is that if one part goes wrong i have to deal with that manufacturer as opposed to one company such as Overclockers directly.

Thanks for the advice mate.. i think if i watch some more videos maybe and do some more research it may help.

Please lets stop ****ging off Windows 8. There is NO POINT in getting an older OS when there is nothing wrong with the new one. Windows 8, while it may appear slightly different in some menus, is essentially just Windows 7 re-vamped, its quicker, snappier, easier, less resource hungry, more secure and you don't even have to look at the new start menu or use any Metro apps unless you absolutely want to.

People bashing Windows 8 is quite frankly, getting old.

Whats it like for day to day use mate? Ideally i will install windows 8 regardless of the bad reviews and see how i get on

About the same as Windows 7 but marginally snappier, and far quicker to boot (due to Hybrid shutdown).

I got used to the Metro side of the UI very quickly, and once you get used to it it does make it a tad quicker to navigate around. I like the personalisation too.

But I do have a nifty little app called Start8 installed, which puts the Windows 7 Start menu back, and makes the PC boot to desktop by default. With that you dont even have to look at the Metro UI and it just feels like Windows 7 with subtly re-designed menu's and buttons.

I have Windows 7 on my desktop right now, but when I re-build it in a month or so (tops) I will most likely put Windows 8 on it.
My experience with Windows 8 has been on my laptop.

Not for me it isn't. I hadn't given W8 two moments thought until I was lumbered with it last week. But the nasty OS has gone away now, so baby can quietly join the masses of silent Windows 8 refusants happily living out their computing life on W7, whilst letting the Windows 8 evangelicals burst everyone heads telling them how good it is, normally as a result of them using 3rd party code to largely ignore Metro and make it 'just like Windows 7'.

No more bickering or insults guys please

Cheers Baddass. Let's try again. :p

Fair enough, you are entitled to your opinions.

I only suggested getting Windows 8 because the fact of the matter is that there will be more support for Windows 8 users from here-on in because almost all new machines have Windows 8 installed.

Lets get this back on track :)

Haha thank you mate

I don't understand the need to argue. I pointed out you can try windows 8 for free for 3 months and that 8.1 should get a preview too. DT15 can make up his own mind.

I do prefer 7 though. Windows 8 boots faster but that's partly because you lose the option to tap F8 for the boot options to get into safe mode for example. You really should do the build yourself, browse the forum and you'll see plenty of first timers got up and going just fine after being so hesitant to D.I.Y it

Yeah i think i will do some background reading about self building and take the plunge when i feel a bit more confident about doing it myself. As i currently have 0% knowledge a few weeks of reading and watching some videos should help. Appreciate the advice.
