Moving to Canada for 12 months - IEC Working Holiday Visa

Well after 2 months attempting to get work there with little interest even at basic level jobs - I came home and got hired within 3 weeks on over £40k a year, so in some ways I am glad I am back but equally... I miss it :(

Trouble for me is that I'm probably going to be coming back to a lower paid job, I did well here getting into a job that pays over £10k more than I was getting back home. That'll be a shame to leave :(

Big decision mate, don't envy you and is part of the reason I went out there single - but if she is the "one" then I guess it's the right move, just be sure she is! :P

You must be excited about your impending move? We're definitely leaving on 18th March now, it's a shame we won't get to meet for a beer or anything when you arrive.

We finish work on 28th February, spending a week down in San Francisco, and then a week or so back here sorting things out and getting ready to head home.

It's sad to think about leaving here, but I have to accept it now. Natalie wrote a post about our decision the other day: http://www.ourcanadianadventure.co.uk/2014/01/winter-in-vancouver/

I am interested in this and have been for a few years. I now have a family though so would need to persuade my partner and look into the loops I would have to pass through to take them with me!

Yeah, I can't wait - things have been a bit up and down for me on a personal level lately, but it's given me more drive to go :) Aww, you're definitely flying home on the 18th? Thats a shame!

How are you feeling about being back at home, do you think you'll miss it? Any chance of doing another year out there at some point?

Yeah definitely the 18th now. I'm not massively looking forward to going home, fortunately we've got stuff planned between now and then so it's taking my mind off it. It'll be nice being back with friends and family, but I imagine that initial excitement will pass, and once we're back into a routine we'll wonder why the hell we left Vancouver. It's just one of those things though.

I'm not expecting us to move back, no.

I think you can look back and say "I've done it". Living aboard is rewarding, both open up the view to the world and a kind of tick it off the bucket list.

And you never know, you might go back again!

Yeah that's a very good way of looking at things :)

I agree - things have been very up and down for me recently, and I considered not going, but I definitely think I'd regret it - I have the opportunity to go (and the Visa!), so I'd be silly not to. I wouldn't want to be sitting there in a few years time saying "oh, I had a chance to do that, wish I had..."

-23 in Toronto Today with a Wind Chill of -32! COLD.

I have been here 2 years now on the IEC Visa and have applied for my PR status.

Canada just has everything better than the UK.

Bah, lightweight. Couple of days of -32 with a wind chill of -40 here. The GTA has T-Shirt weather.

:D

Less than 2 weeks until I go now, I'm feeling a combination of nervous, excited, scared and apprehensive. But overall, I'm buzzing, and can't wait :D

Been here nearly a month now after my permanent move. Managed to find a place to live, under which we have already managed to temporarily lose both the dog and the cat in separate incidents. Got a car and start my job in April, got another three weeks off yet so fitting in a few days down in Seattle and San Francisco and will be doing some touring of BC. Popping over to Vancouver Island and hopefully staying at the same place we had our mini honeymoon in. Brother in law got tickets to the NHL Heritage classic game last Sunday, that was good, apart from the result.

Life is very different here, but looking forward to it immensely. :)

I've got a Skype interview/chat tonight with some potential new housemates, the house seems ideal, big room, home gym, garden/deck etc. Right at the top end of my budget but hopefully worth it :)
