Moving to eSIM, is there any benefit?

I am on a legacy EE plan and still have inclusive EU roaming, however the price increases annually. I am thinking of moving back to giffgaff or getting a sim only contract with O2 as they continue to offer inclusive roaming, although giffgaff have a 5GB fair usage cap on roaming data per month. With O2, some tariffs seem to have a 25GB cap on roaming data per month and others don't - either way 25GB is plenty, 5GB might be ok, but could be a little higher.

I have been very happy with EE over the past 24 months though. I visit EU countries several times a year, so would like the inclusive roaming really.

Check out Lebara too. I’m no fan of Vodafone but I haven’t missed EE as much I thought I would.

I'm sticking with EE due to the BT Sport smart benefit, I watch a lot of BT Sport (Rugby mainly, plus Football) and I can have it in UHD on my TV for an extra £5 a month.

Problem with O2 roaming is its garbage :p In the US, Netherlands, Belgium and Spain at least it is. It barely works and they had the cheek to charge me in the US for it as well. Back to Vodafone or EE when my contract runs outing a few months.

Don’t do it. Stick with EE. Their legacy tariffs are unbeatable in the current market. Wifi calling, cloud wifi calling, VV, roaming, Apple Music, bt sport etc etc unrestricted roaming is the greatest as well. It’s awful with others, you can barely load pages at times.

Can’t get close to it from anyone and to get a new sim only I’m sure it’s >£40 now for 3 smart benefits.

It's weird how behind the UK is on this. It's a shame Apple didn't force it on them over here.

I asked 3 for eSim and they told me they stopped it because of covid. Hmm, right, stopped providing a completely virtual product and instead opted for one that needs to be produced, packed and posted, or collected from stores.

Some places only want to allow eSims on contract too, which is weird, as they are ideally suited to pay monthly/PAYG, and tourists.

In Mexico I was able get an eSim with AT&T on PAYG no problem. Either in store or online. In France I can get on Orange eSim online.

It wouldn’t surprise me if there were people in the UK who think e-sims are some sort of virtual drugs.

Last night I was in the middle of setting up my 14pro and transferring apps/data over and the new phone asked if I wanted to transfer my number to the new phone as an esim.
Wasn’t too sure about it but the more I read up on it the more I’m interested as I travel a lot. I’m with Vodafone and the plan I’m on allows me to roam for free anywhere in the world.
But now that me and the wife are planning to move out of the country by the end of the year. I won’t be needing my Vodafone line.

So I can chop and change as much as I want depending on what country I’m in etc.
