Moving to the dark side of the force

Oh try not to be an incredible fanboy for a second. Ninja Gaiden 2 and Fable 2 just to pluck two out of a 'shocking' line up. I remember not that long ago when Sony fans were loving Ninja Gaiden as the best game on the PS3, suddenly its shocking now....

Whilst I disagree with Nanoman. In terms of "big" established IP games that your average Joe has heard of (or ones that sold well in previous iterations), then surely Sony is gonna have more in '08?

Obviously we will learn a lot more at GDC for both platforms (I am sure both have even more exclusives up their sleeves).

Apart from multiplat titles, if you name the big games coming out this year people have heard of, ps3 would win it. I don't know exactly which games, but I think MGS, Tekken 6, GTA, etc I am sure there is more.

I have no had facts or lists to back this up, but I get the feeling the big games of previous gen Sony machines will be out this year which the 360 had last year and they are the ones people will buy more for various reasons (you have exceptions like Gears on 360, but they come at a price).

Yea i love Ninja Gaiden and cant wait for the second one, but 2 games aint gonna last a year. Hopefully more will arise as apparantly thats microsofts plan.

Im sorry if my comments offend you (which they shouldnt really, hardly personal ;)) just based on my own opinion/exprience.

fairly straightforward to change HDD on the ps3? quite pleased it accepts any old SATA HDD though :)

Easy to change drive and most seem to use drives like this Western Digital Scorpio 160GB 5400RPM SATA 8MB Cache just needs to be 2.5" notebook drive .

Can you transfer game saves and other downloads easily?

There is a utility in the XMB that lets you "backup". From what I have read here, it does game saves, downloads and all other content on the HDD (that the ps3 XMB can see, ie no Linux etc).

Your sir are a gent, I used the search for exclusives and missed them. Thanks :)

np.

Without looking to deeply at the lists (I'm sure there are more games, but that is what we know for now, including "big" hitters, some will miss release date as well :)), what is your opinion on which list would impress man on the street (which most of this forum isn't, nor are you, by implication).

Just in terms of what they have heard of or have played previous iterations of?

Curious as to what you think, as I think you have mentioned a few times you are getting a ps3 soon-ish

In all honesty I normally don't follow releases or hype for games all that often, I prefer to be surprised by games as they come along. I like it when gems come along you haven't paid much attention too.

Looking through both those lists neither really struck me as having huge draw if I owned neither system. Then again i'm likely a poor judge because I have never tried Ninja Gaiden or MGS. I think though the likely money is everyone knowing the MGS, GT5, FF and singstar franchise more than anything in the 360 list. Thats not too say it's better or worse, just more widely known.

Probably there's a game on each list that we haven't considered that will blow any of the known games out the water. I hope so.

Likely both companies are holding stuff back. I cant see 08 passing without an F1 game. :D

For me personally neither list blows me away anymore than the other. I'd quite like a look at a few like GT5 but I wouldn't buy a system off the back of either list.

Yeah, this is what I mean, they are more widely known to the man on the street which will generate sales (not necessarily saying the big games will be better quality).

None of the smaller games will be a big seller, unless there is a huge marketting campaign with them (again that's not to say they won;t be critically acclaimed). I don't think word of mouth sales work as well in games industry.

The 08 360 lineup is shocking, the PS3s line up is a hell of a lot better so enless the op wants to play gears or pgr i reckon that the move is a wise decision. Thats before rrod issues as well.imo.

Shocking?
We're one month into 08 and both consoles have only had 1 AAA title each, which is the same, Burnout Paradise.
The next major AAA game is Devil May Cry 4.... which is also on both. It's the same case for Army of Two as well.
Lost Odysee is a new game from the creator of FF, a series which has been a major release throughout Sony's console life, however anyone being honest would say the series has deteriorated ever since FFVII (or perhaps FFVIII as that was awesome too).
The biggest game of the year is on both, which is GTA4 (though the Xbox360 with it's future content surely puts the ball in their court).
Ninja Gaiden 2 (which is the sequel to the game which was widely seen as the best on PS3 until Uncharted arrived at the very end of 07)
Halo Wars will sell a ridiculous amount of games. Sony fanboys underestimated the power of the franchise before Halo3. 50% of all Xbox360 owners have owned Halo3 (and it wasn't a bundle game).

Whilst I don't doubt that Sony's exclusives are more exciting, I wouldn't say the 360's lineup is shocking because most of the major games are shared format anyway.
Microsoft are going into their 3rd year with Xbox360, Sony are only in their second, so it goes without saying that Microsoft delivered a lot of their big games (most of which were excellent, only really Blue Dragon disappointed). Where were Sony whilst Microsoft unloaded a lot of its big guns? They answered with 1 AAA title, Uncharted.

From the Sony list I don't think FF will arrive in 2008, MGS4, for me, doesn't look great and the previous 2 iterations have failed in comparison to the masterful genius that was MGS(1). Gran Turismo 5 will be great as GT5P was, so I expect more of that. Killzone 2 is the followup to possibly the biggest disappointment to ever hit the PS2. Resistance: FOM 2 looks to be a very good game etc...

Whilst I think the PS3 has some very strong titles, for me that's the case, they are only strong titles, I don't get excited about them in the same way I do with Project Gotham Racing or Mass Effect (or Alan Wake obviously). My most anticipated games for 2008 were Alan Wake, Burnout Paradise and Grand Theft Auto 4.

The 2008 list for the PS3, for me doesn't excite as much as I hoped, but I'm sure I'll end up buying them all anyway.

And there you are, lowering yourself to comments regarding RRoD issues, sad. :(

But you cant judge up-coming games that havent even been reviewed yet on previous title releases, especially if theyre on different consoles! Im just looking forward to MGS, GT5 & FFXIII so much that the 360s current lineup doesnt do anything at all for me in comparison. The only 360 game that I will deffo be purchasing is Ninja Gaiden, hopefully some better titles will be announced. Maybe shocking was a little extreme but its hardly impressive! And i dont understand how im lowering myself by commenting on reliability as a consideration for purchasing a console.

Which is exactly my point with all the people saying 'Get a PS3' and 'The upcoming list is "X, Y and Z".

I've heard you and others bang on and on about these upcoming games. no one knows if they are going to be any good. Previous releases would suggest they won't live up to expectation but that they will be at least 'good' games.

You were saying "Get rid of your console before it fails", but it won't necessarily fail. None of my 2 Xbox360's have RRoD'd and the hours put into them is frightening and involved many, many all-night sessions where the console has been left on.

My first console only died because the GPU in it blew (and it wasn't me who it happened to, was it justin ;)). However there have been lots of reported PS3's failing, so it's not necessarily any better if you have a new Xbox360. I think the rate of console failures has very much evened itself out now, whatever will you do?

Like I said hardly worth selling a 360 now when you can buy a PS3 at Christmas and it should be at least £50 cheaper with MGS or GT5

Hardly:rolleyes: Wheres the comparison between previous titles??

/goes back to the prologue.

You are saying get a PS3, based on games not out, based on these games from pevious titles, so how can you say get a PS3 cause these games will make it worth it, but then tell Nokkon he can't say the games on 360 will be good until they have been reviewed :p

I thought he was telling me not to be critical of PS3 games until they have? :p.
