This is a problem that has really got me boiling over, basically, it would appear mozilla is using WAY to much memory, when i watch it in the task manager, i see it just go up and up until it reaches about a gb, then it says mozilla has ecnountered a problem and needs to be shut down!.

AppName: firefox.exe AppVer: 1.9.0.3054 ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 0000256d

thats the error in full, i got it from internet explorer too, but ive since disabled third party browsing in that and its stopped, but it still persists in mozilla, with both the latest version and the version 3 candidate...

Im using windows xp and im getting to breaking point.

Any suggestions other then start using internet explorer???

It's something you've installed, and if it's the same in IE my money would go on something like Flash. Try safe mode, and/or a new profile.

I tried safe mode, and it seemed to still do it, im now using a new profile, and so far so good...but still, ive got the task manager open and its like waiting for the long beep on a heart monitor...

is or has anyone else been suffereing from this?

Not without knowing what's actually wrong. If a new profile works fine, try copying in your bookmarks, and install extensions one by one till you've either got them all installed or you see the problem again.

Using both versions 2 and 3 with the same profile can cause problems too.

I uninstalled version 2 last night and installed version three, but its doing it again now.

What is the healthy amount of memory that should be used?

I just cant figure this one out, ive completely wiped mozilla and re-installed at its still eating up memory like vanessa feltz at a buffet.

Granted its been behaving a little bit better, but it seems to be websites like gametrailers causing it, or when i got to depositfiles website, its so inconsistant....

Anyone?

Did you delete the Firefox folder in Program Files and your profile?

imo 80-150mb (87mb atm) is about what i'd expect to see ff using

sounds like one of those plugins is the guilty candidate (namely those used by individual sites)

if i where you i'd backup your profile folder, export your bookmarks and write down any difficult passwords you might be relying on ff remembering for you and then uninstall, manually delete any leftovers and then either copy back your profile or rebuild a new one with the help of your exported bookmarks, etc.

on a side note: do you really need all those plugins, they must be impacting your browsing aside from possibly causing your main problem

if you do need a real player codec check out 'real alternative'
