MP breaks rules shock horror!

I'm a bit perplexed as to why the landlord of the person she stayed over with was expecting payment for it. My company's expenses policy permits us to claim a sum of money (though nowhere near £165 a day) if we stay with friends while away on business. Most people see it as a matter of honour that the person we stayed with gets that money although there's nothing to stop us keeping it. It's a purely informal arrangement so it's not the same as sub-letting.

Baroness Warsi should have declared the income she got from a flat that she rented out, but I see no reason why this wouldn't be a mistake rather than anything sinister. Unfortunately for her the knives are out as there are plenty of Tories who really don't like her.

It's becoming fairly clear that it's only ever theft when you're a commoner.

Although, I find it disgusting to see all of the fuss over this little infringement when the governments welfare to work contracts are currently under fire (you would never know if you watch the BBC) after being conned out of BILLIONS of tax payer money to line the pockets of private owners.

Written evidence submitted to Parliament by a former chief auditor at A4e shows how an “unethical culture” led to “systemic fraud” at the company, which holds major government contracts. When concerns were raised about wrongdoing with senior managers, little was done to address the widespread abuse of taxpayers’ money, the whistleblower alleged.

A document put to MPs also described serious problems at another welfare to work provider, Working Links, which runs three major contracts on the Coalition’s £5 billion jobs scheme and is part-owned by the Government.

The evidence was submitted by Eddie Hutchinson, the former head of audit at A4e, who attended a meeting of the Commons public accounts committee on Tuesday from which the public was excluded.

You must work for a very generous company. I suspect that if I were to claim £165 a day for weeks or months to pay a "mate" to crash in his spare bedroom, I would be told to take a hike. I accept that it is illogical that when I stay in an hotel and charge for meals, nobody bats an eyelid but so it goes.

Baroness Warsi has refused to say how much she claimed and how much she paid the impoverished Naweed Khan to compensate him for the inconvenience caused and the additional costs incurred by him as a result of her staying with him as a guest.

In light of the recent expenses scandal, Warsi sounds like a greedy idiot - or a Tory as such people are usually described ;)

She will of course get away with it - she is too big to fail :D

I did say it was nowhere near £165 a night, and no I don't work for a generous company :p

I don't think that Warsi is too big to fail on this, she's female and northern - two things that don't go down too well in Conservative party circles.

She is also a Muslim AND looks a wee bit dark - not a good combination for the Tories . . . I DO hope she isn't a lesbian or disabled in any way, they would lose SO many brownie points if they had to take her round the back and shoot her :D

ps - I was kidding about your getting paid £165 . . . although I did think of asking for a loan till the end of the month ;)
