MP3 Player; Lets cast a vote!

I use the Sansa Clip. Though I use it only for running, and its amazing for that. Light enough I don't even know its there.

ok.. start to like the Sansa Clip+.. lets heard from IPod user? anyone?

I have an 8gb iPod touch and a 8GB Sandisk Sansa Clip+ and the Sandisk unit has noticeably better sound quality.

The dynamics and bass just aren't there with the iPod when you compare it to the Sandisk unit...

I mainly use my iPod for podcasts, and have my own music on my Clip+, but I have tried the same albums on both units. :)

Because sometimes they are more useful?:p

I have a smartphone and use that a lot for music but when I'm away on holiday or travelling long distance I much prefer using my walkman as the battery lasts 4x longer and has better SQ (for a start)...

4x battery and better SQ? I don't believe it :)

each to their own, i'll just have my HTC Desire with 32gb space which does music, film, video recording, camera, phone, email, calendar, contacts, apps, games *yawn*

LolMP3 players.

My phone does the same and I usually use it when walking to the shops/friends/uni etc.

However if I'm going on holiday the ability to just charge my walkman up at the beginning of the week and use it on the plane and all week without charging is something quite useful. Usually it's my phone or the walkman, not both at the same time, unless I'm skiing or something similar.

Just recently bought a Sansa Clip+ 8GB (+ 16GB micro/sdhc) and really simplicity itself to use and decent sound quality, can also use Rockbox firmware with it...

It has a camera?

I was recently thinking about buying a Nikon D3100 camera but they're quite expensive at around £500.

Are you saying that I could just use the camera on the HTC desire instead? Are they less than £500? :p

no I would buy a proper camera if it was for anything other than fun because there is a considerable difference in ability.

However, MP3 is MP3. Prove me wrong :)

Gotta be the Clip+ really. Maybe a Fuze if you prefer (although reviews haven't been so king to the new Fuze+.

MP3 is MP3? That's like saying JPG is JPG! Differences in DAC and output buffer means that there can be a noticeable difference in sound quality between MP3 players and other devices that play MP3's.

Like the Insignia Pilot, we were not expecting much from the Sansa Clip. Why on earth would SanDisk pack one of their best sound chips into an MP3 player costing less than $50? The Clip's -1.36dB frequency response deviation average is slightly better than the iPod Classic, and a closer inspection of the graph reveals absolutely no frequency dips between the audible range of 20Hz-22kHz. A total harmonic distortion score of -65.25dB and an SNR of -84.78dB makes the Clip a top pick for budget audiophiles who have already put themselves in debt with their $500 headphones.

I have yet to see any audio measurements from any mobile phone MP3 player but I'd like to se some if there are any. Usually battery life is a bigger concern than DAC choice so I wouldn't expect amazing performance myself...

I use a Clip+ for day to day use, amazing size, quality etc. I use my iPhone when I head to the bar along with some cheapo earphones so I'm not too bothered if they end up damaged. I'd highly recommend the Clip+ though, I was blown away at the sound quality, the size is just fantastic too as I use it to walk to work daily I didn't want another huge thing in my pockets.

The difference between a phone and my Clip+ is obvious though. Saying MP3 is MP3 is like saying the D2X and onboard are the same because you're just playing MP3s. Just because you can't hear a difference doesn't mean there isn't one.

I have bought two Creative Zens recently (MX 16GB).... the first one stopped working within 2-3 weeks, and the second one (The replacement for the first) just never worked to begin with, so I got it refunded.

I was quite shocked as I've never had any problems with Creative products before...

I've had walkman phones and they were shockingly noisy. The hiss from the phone with sensitive IEMs was really poor.

Most decent MP3 players these days will play music for between 20 to 40 hours without needing a charge.

Your Desire will probably last for a couple of hours max, that isn't even taking in to consideration the quality of sound coming from a phone versus a good MP3 player. :p

Your budget is £80 for 16 gig so it's not going to happen unless you go 2nd hand.
I've had all sorts over the years and there isn't a day that goes by where I don't look at my 32 gig Touch and think it's the best device ever (if only it had phone capabilities it would be perfect).
Of course I also use it watch videos and play games every day.

Go for the Sansa Clip, you won't be disappointed.
