Hi Guys,

Thought some of you may be interested in this as I go along.. Short run down, ive always wanted a MK2 Escort ever since I was able to drive, never had the funds spare to have one so its taken a while to finally get one!

This one was/is a 1600 Sport, been badly painted, 1600xFlow but with a pinto gearbox etc. It needs work and this thread will hopefully be a log of it all!

Plans so far? Fix the issues with the shell and get underside cleaned up and painted. I wont be painting exterior yet, only engine bay etc.

Im still undecided on what engine/box ill be using so we will see on that as well.

Anyways enough talking, here are some pictures:

When I got it:

I don't think either of those would be worth the effort of making them fit.

I'd keep it old school and blow the budget on a Harris pinto or xflow, or an N/A YB for a little mix of old/new.

Had a few fast fords growing up, including a Mk1 Mex rep which was a lot of fun.

I have no idea how much work it would be :D I was just thinking 2.0 sounds about right size wise and the op was open to modern.

I think it'd be more apt to go for a tuned period engine, though I imagine it would be expensive and less powerful, though I appreciate that isn't what this is all about and it probably doesn't need many ponies.

As an investment, I presume you would be best off restoring it as factory? Though that wouldn't be particularly exciting if it's a regular cooking model.

In my mind it's either;
Factory restoration
Fast period mods / rs replica
Modern parts in a classic shell
