mrk's HU - pics?

Even if I put my Pioneer with blue LED lighting in and it contrasted totally with the BMW's orange glow, I wouldn't really care :p

Whats the point?

You've had the car a while and I'd guess your considering replacement options however difficult.

Imo, you'd merely spend a wad of cash on a system that you'd get some use from but would be a bonus to the cars next owner, a bonus that you'll see little return from as it'll have little effect on the cars resale value.

For reasons that escape me the E39/E46/E53 nav gear is worth a small fortune on Ebay. It is considerably more expensive than nav gear for any other car including the E60's and various Audi's.

So although it costs a grand to retrofit it, you get that back when you strip it from the car at resale time.

A bordmonitor and MK4 Computer will set you back £800 notes if you are lucky. You then need the loom. I'd be interested to see where you can get these cheaper.

I didn't mention a mk4 nav computer but anyway £800 for those two is a stupid amount, even on eBay the prices for those two should be no more than £600 from the most expensive sellers and I would never pay anywhere near that.

I've been researching prices for a while (ie. since my first retrofit in 2006) and I just bought myself a complete set for the following prices:

mk4 Nav computer with faulty mechanism: £71 (inc postage)

I have a spare mechanism a friend sent me, but even brand new ones are only £80 online

16:9 screen : £225

BM24 radio : £80
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200372475943&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

I just need the loom £110 quid and the climate control panel for £25. So all in all it will cost me £525. Let's say I sell my Business CD player for £150 (a reasonable estimate) then the nav retrofit will be costing me £375 in total.

I must be the only one who doesnt think aftermarket stuff in the BMW dashes looks too bad then. I value audio quality quite highly anyway, so I'm not fussed if it doesn't quite look as smooth as OEM, but that's just me :D

Im pretty much the same but it is hard to find one that matches in nicely.

Crikey I guess I of all people shouldnt knock the ridiculous value of crap BMW stereo equipment now I've made almost 300 quid flogging tape players for E39's :D

Well yeah, the moment people see "BMW HEAD UNIT" it's automatically worth way more :p

It's true, I kept trying to get hold of a standard E36 headunit when I still had the 325i, they always ended up selling for way over £100.
