MS, countdown to E3 has begun...

I think its fairly safe to assume that the next gen consoles are going to be capable of putting out the current crop of gamess at the same image quality as they have on high end PCs currently.

However consoles remain static, and by the time we replace them in another 7 years or so they will look equally as poor as they do now. Its just because we're at the end of a life cycle, when PS3 and Xbox 360 came out, the graphics were stunning for the time.

Do console games really look poor though though considering their age?

Consoles being static is a very good thing though, I'd love to see a 6-7 year old PC playing God of War 3 or Uncharted 2-3.

The fact consoles are static means they can be optimised for fully.

The WiiU was announced a couple of months before E3 2011, shown briefly at that E3, shown more at E3 2012 then released at the end of that year.

PS3 was announced at E3 2005, then shown again at E3 2006 then released late that year. I think PS2 hit these shores over a year after announcement as well.

360 was announced May 2005 and released end of that year.

Based on that it makes me think that the 360 will launch (end of) this year.
I doubt Sony could announce at E3 and get the console out by the end of the year (based on history).

Compare BF3 on consoles vs BF3 on a high end PC and the biggest differences is the AA and lack of jaggies. I think the next gen consoles will be able to get pretty close to the current high end PCs with current game engines. But there are game engines due out soon which will really push PCs beyond consoles very quickly.

Unreal Engine 4 for example.

Pretty much, I'm sure the consoles will produce some great looking games but comparing them to PC games is a total waste of time.

Its all time relative, when the new consoles launch they will be comparible to a current gen PC and play the new shiny games and shiny engines. BUT, over the following years the consoles limited ability will show and PC's will be ahead again with newer technology, more power and all the games of that era will look better on PC. Exactly how things are now, and probably how it will be in the future. Its just the natural cycle of consoles vs PC.

PC's are upgradeable, consoles are not.

Yeah I mean uncharted series and gran turismo, wipeout run so much better on a PC.

It's well-known that as a console progresses the graphics progress for that console too.

Bizarre Creations went down but some of its staff set up Lucid Games and.......

of course they don't look poor, they look absolutely fantastic.

Indeed, but for some reason pc gamers like to remind us that pc games look better :D:rolleyes:

Only real issue I have gaming on consoles is generally pop-in textures and field of view. Out side of that, pfft. I care very little.

I look forward to the new consoles! I believe they will be hitting 2014 though

Microsoft would have to seriously impress me with their new console before I buy, as up to now all they seem to do is destroy franchises (Fable/Alan Wake/Kameo) and pour all there resources into Kinect which I have zero interest in.

Hahahahahahahahaha. I almost fell of my chair with how much that made me laugh.

It's quite possibly one of the top 5 games this generation for me.

With regards new consoles, the fact that the release schedule for the back end of 2013 is quiet has to mean something is coming.

Alan Wake is a franchise with 1 game? Kameo one game at launch that was quite impressive? And not too sure how MS can be given any blame or credit for Fable.

Pour resources into Kinect? really like Sony pour into Move? I would hardly think resources are being poured into Kinect.

I hope it's a new console. I'm ready for one now, in the hope we can have something other than the yearly wait for a COD game. If there is a xmas Console it will be interesting to see if they make a COD optimised for it. Probably not.

Top of my wishlist is to run two screens from one console, yes I'm dreaming! Death to split screen!

Oh and Alan Wake was dull, run into the light so you don't fall asleep ;)

What does everyone think of IllumiRoom!?

Microsoft has revealed a proof-of-concept video at CES 2013 for a new gaming feature called IllumiRoom.

IllumiRoom projects images on the walls surrounding a television to induce a range of effects such as changing the room's appearance, extending the game environment and creating a sense of motion.

The bit with the kart racing and the snow falling looked really good.

There will probably be a Gears or Halo in there somewhere but it wouldn't make any sense to have to wait for GTAV - there may even be plans for an optimised version, who knows?

I do hope it's a new console at the end of this year. Would definitely buy into it.

Edit

^^that IllumiRoom looks very smart! If it works as well as that it would be very cool.
