MS, countdown to E3 has begun...

It would certainly give a big differentiation between itself and the PS4. Actually I'm more excited by that kind of innovation than motion controls or an extra screen etc that we have seen from Nintendo.

I already use a projector for console games... i hope this would be compatible if it ever comes to market.

Agreed, motion control has never inspired me, always looked like a fad - this however add immersion into any game without you having to change the way you play or forcing developer to think of ways of crow-barring it into their game. Looks awesome. I hope it turns out as good as it looks.

I wonder if Sony have something equally as refreshing? I don't think anyone saw this coming so I wouldn't be surprised if Sony have just pooped themselves a little.

Bizarre Creations went down but some of its staff set up Lucid Games and.......

PGR? Or do MS own the rights?

I've just got a horrible feeling that we're all getting excited for nothing. I can't see myself being interested in Xbox if they are going to Kinect-ize everything. And I don't care for that room projection thing either as I've got nowhere to put a projector.

So I'm hoping Sony will just stick to the basics. No silly Move stuff. Just proper games on a proper controller like they have been doing since PSone. They just need to get PSN fixed so that patching/game installs and whathaveyou is much more seamless and unobtrusive than it is now.

Nah, you'd be better off with a bigger HDTV. Simplez. ;)

Actually, not quite. The bigger size screen, unless it's higher in resolution (which we know 1080p is it for now till TV goes 4K, if ever), it'll just make things bigger. What the projection give is immersion. Much like peripheral vision when you're focusing at an area.

My Mrs wants a kinect for her birthday, I'm a little concerned as to whether they make it compatible with whatever comes next or if I will end up buying a different improved kinect camera for the 720 or whatever they call it.

The biggest problem with that Illumini..whatever, is just a distraction more than immersion.

For example, if you see the silhouette of a character (Enemy with a rocket launcher for example) in the outside of the playable screen, you will likely not bother moving your pad, but your head instead...

The counter argument would be that you would never see that person anyway with the screen as is, which is all right and valid.

I also see a concern about eye strain using it, probably unfounded...but the sheer magnitude of information your eyes already have to perceive...wont help with extra crap all over the walls.

How I see it, assuming you don't have too much pattern on your background wall, it gives a peripheral sense in a game that's largely 'tunnel visioned'.

Imagine e.g. Call of Duty, you're going down a street with fighting happening straight down and something (e.g. sniper) catches your eye 'outside' the TV vision, you'll naturally turn to it - once you get over the vision in living room. In this case, without the illumiroom, you'd not have seen this and died.

It's a cheaper way of extending field of view - like PC gamers with 3 screens, now will give a better effect.

It's all theoretical, we need one set up for us to try!

What? Like that?

I personally would like to see more game immersion. This is gonna blow me away if they can pull it off. (Obviously game devs need to be in on it too)

With short throw projection tech these days, you don't need any more than your sitting distance to get such immersion!

THAT move diagram is hilarious. Doing a bicycle kick in your lounge... of course!

To be honest my best upgrade was from a tv to a 1080p projector. Once you see 90% of the screen rather than surrounding objects around the tv it makes it far more immersive. Obviously split-screen benefits from it amazingly as well especially games such as Resident Evil.
