Ms new console codenamed "phoenix"

Im not drawing you into an argument - the facts state that the GPU in the X360 was superseded by ATI and in the market for the PC before the X360 was even released. Ive not even bothered to look into nVidia...

Far Cry - released 18 months before the X360 and was still considered one of the most beautiful games out there - Im sorry but no at-launch X360 game touched that for graphics prowess...

Your point is null and void - the PC never needed to catch up as it had GPUs out there that were more powerful than the X360 one and had games that looked as good if not better before it was released...

Perhaps Ive missed your point, but the facts (as I consider them) are there...

Kameo looks better than Far Cry.

You do realise that the 360 was released in November 2005?

The R600 didn't come out until the following year.

I'm not going to be drawn into an argument, but could you give me a few examples of PC games that were better, visuals-wise, than say Kameo?

You can play old games without jaggies, but that doesn't mean the graphics are better than a more modern game with them. There's far more to graphical detail than that.

Well, to start at the very basics, PCs run at resolutions far higher than 720p, so straight away there the PC has an element it needs to work harder to achieve.

I was running games like Quake 4, FEAR, Half Life 2 and Battlefield 2 at 1050x1680 with anti aliasing before the 360s release. To put that in perspective, thats just over 50% more pixels to render than 720p which is what the 360 rendered those games, and most others at.

PCs have been more powerful than both consoles even since their launch. That doesn't make them a better platform for gaming necessarily, but that's how it was.

PC games that were ported across to the 360 are poor examples tbh. All they prove is that specific games looked better on the PC.

All I remember is, from experience owning a high-end PC and purchasing a 360 at launch, the 360 was ahead in terms of visuals for at least a few months following it's release.

Its not as powerful - I think thats my point...

The Xenos came with unified shaders and I agree its probably nearer in architecture to the R600 than R520 - but its woefully underpowered compared to say the X1800XT...

EDIT: Anyway does anyone know why MS decided to bolt the HSs to the metal inner box in the first place? I presume it was to help to dissipate the heat, which probably was a good idea. Though perhaps they needed to use better quality metal if it was deforming due to temperature (I cant believe it would be that malleable)

Spend 2 or 3 times as much on a PC as a console and it will look better shocker

Seriousley though - you can't really still state that the PC looks better than console - have you never played Mobile Suit Gundam?

:p

World of Warcraft looks way better than Kameo and can support higher resolutions. 2560x1600 is going to walk all over 1280x720 any day.

Can we get back to the thread - the discussion we are involved is about 3years old and probably happened multiple times :p

Appreciate if anyone can verify why the HSs were bolted or that MS was unaware how power the metal inner box was to continual heating - massive oversight to me...

I like the idea (reminds me of what Zalman do with their high end case) so wondering if they utilise it again - seems a non-tech way to assist heat dissipation without using louder fans ;)

MS knew of the issue, there's been several reports of this. Thing is, they were dead set on getting their foot in the door before Sony with the PS3 so they pushed for release anyway with the intention of fixing the problems as they went.

For more info see the link i posted a few posts back.
