MSI 1080 ti - i5 2500k 4.5 ghz runs Amazing

Just got my MSI 1080ti running on my i5 2500k at 4.5 ghz and after playing all the latest games for the past hour on max settings at 1440p Resolution all I can say is WOW this card is a Beautiful! Every single game at 2.5k on ultra runs constantly over 60FPS , I know this card was going to be good but not this good. My games have never looked so good & run like butter. If anyone is thinking about buying a 1080ti do it you won't regret it.

2k is 1080p.

1440p is 2.5k.

Goes by the first bit of the res usually so

1920×1080 first bit is roughly 2k
2560×1440 2.5k
3840 x 2160 4k.
Not exactly 4k but thats what they call it.
7680 × 4320 is 8k

I know a lot of people must still have the i5 2500k and I can confirm that you 100% don't need to upgrade any time soon if you have it O/C ....

The only game that runs just under or around 60 FPS @ 1440 was Ghost recon Wild-lands on Very High settings , I've had a lot of decent cards over the years but this one just makes them all look amateur.

I am getting over 100 FPS on Ultra settings on Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege 2.5k 1400p

I'm going to make some videos tonight and ill post them on TY.

Yea 1080Ti is a cracking card. Iv'e got a 3770k at 3.7Ghz and only odd game has found the cpu to be a bottleneck. however i still get great performance. I know with a 7700k i would get much better minimums and averages but the price for that is quite significant atm.

No, 1440p is 1440p, the horizontal resolution depends on the aspect (I.E 3440x1440) hence ultrawide 1080p also being 2560 horizontal.

You're a bad BAD man! I've a 2600k @4.6ghz with a KFA2 780 HOF GPU and I'm also playing GR Wildlands at the moment. I wanted to upgrade the CPU and GPU to something more modern so I was tempted by a 7700k & 1070 setup (currently 1080p/60hz) but, after reading your post and a few others about the continued viability of the 2500k/2600k, I decided I'd use the 7700k money to just get a much better GPU instead and bought the KFA2 1080ti EX OC

Plus it helps when I swap to a 4k setup in a few years time too which is nice!

No one needs to Upgrade there i5 2500k or 2600k ! Yet As I said the MSI 1080 Ti runs like a dream with these CPU's , Just been playing PREY tonight on Ultra at 2560x1440 and getting well over 100 FPS ! its Crazy and I love it.

Try watchdogs2 or fallout4.Prey runs good on everything even 10years old crap.
2500K is huge bottleneck in cpu demanding games.

It's not really mislabelling it tbf but I don't like the naming scheme of 2k, 4k etc. For example 2.5k vs 4k does sound more impressive for 1440p than 3.6Mpixels vs 8.2Mpixels.

Nonetheless 1440p looks glorious compared to 1080p. Enjoy OP.

Try running Crysis on it at max settings. It still drops below 60fps at some points. Rare but it does it.

Well just had my 1080Ti arrive & fitted etc, made a seperate post HERE but headline figures are a 225 to 260% increase in performance in benchmarks and 200% in-game.

This exactly. If you pair a 1080Ti with a 2500K you are only going to get between GTX1060 and 1070 performance in games like BF1 online and Fallout 4. The CPU is a big bottleneck. Doesn't mean games won't run perfectly fine in most cases but you're not getting the power of the 1080Ti at all.

Try running some of the games mentioned above and you will see from full usage on the card, unless you force tons of super sampling or run at 4k.

GTX1070 cards and above should be paired with an i7 in an ideal world.

It's a good boost for 'now' though and they'll get another boost when they update their respective platforms

Update : I just wanted to report that I am getting very high FPS in games on ultra at 2.5k RES but also Random massive low FPS maybe for like 1 SEC ? - Will go from 150 FPS down to like 30 FPS in some Games ? Is this down to Bottleneck ? If I upgrade to a new i7 7700k will this solve this issue ?
