MSI GeForce GTX 670 OC Twin Frozr PE

If you are going over 50% on the fan speed, then I can maybe appreciate that you would start to hear it. And at 60% I could well imagine it's getting more than a bit noticeable.

Corsair 600T, nice case. I'll be interested to hear what difference that makes.

Yes, I think ambient temp makes a big difference. Hence why I think a lot of the reviews, when they quote load temps, are pretty meaningless. As more often than not, they don't give the room temp at the time of testing!

I bought this card last week. Used to have HD5850. Difference is amazing. The most surprising thing to me though is that all the dark areas on BF3 are nowhere near as dark with this card and Nvidia drivers. Don't get owned anymore in the underground car park, or on scrap metal. Very interesting this is to me. Everyone talks about FPS but the basic appearance of maps has changed. People are telling me its due to better drivers from Nvidia.
BTW mine boosts to 1189 as well. Runs at 65C and stayed like that will the side panel of my case removed. With it on, the temp hits 70C after 3 hours of gaming. Old case, very poor air flow.

I just ordered the same card today.
Itl look sweet only ft02

Hi... Is that the case where the add in cards are fitted vertically, rather than the more standard horizontally? If so, I'll be interested to hear how well a card like this works in this sort of arrangement. Never had a case with this sort of layout before, so be interesting to see what the cards temps are like.

I just had to RMA a msi 560ti 2gb card the other day and got a msi 660ti 2gb card as a replacement as they dont stock the msi560ti 2gb anymore....part of me is thinking maybe i should have paid the extra and got a 670 lol...oh well I guess the 660ti is still going to be an upgrade...I hope.

O'well. That's my OCing experiment over.

Power Limit to max
+20mv on core
+100MHz on core
+400 on memory.

That translates to approx. +45% performance boost over my MSI 580 Twin Frozr OC. So a worthwhile upgrade I think. I usually try to aim for around +50% performance improvement before I upgrade, so that's close enough for me :D

As temps still under 60C and power limit only hitting around 95% (according to AfterBurner), I suspect I could push both the core and the memory a bit more, but I'm not greedy, that will do me.

Overclocking Results

MSI’s cards have continually impressed us with their willingness to overclock to impressive levels. With a bit of coaxing via MSI’s AfterBurner software to maximize the Power Limit and add 100mV to the core and memory voltage (PLL was also increased by 50mV) the GPU hit an impressive 1388MHz while the memory petered out at 6524MHz. Both of those clock speeds are personal bests but we have a feeling like there’s more in the tank should MSI decide to release a GTX 670 Lightning.

For those of you wondering, at these speeds, the actual Boost clock we typically observed in games was between 1450MHz and 1465MHz.

Nelly ... thanks for that. Sad man that I am, I've already read every page on that thread :) Though as usual, you are pretty much dependant on how good an OC'er your particular core is.

Baron C ... thanks for that, an interesting read. So looks like he should be OK.

Are the fans better than the sh1tty ones they put on the twin frozer 580's ?

My previous card was an MSI 580 TF and I did not think they were that bad. But then the ambient temperature up here in Scotland is not what you would call warm, even in the Summer (certainly not this year!).

But in answer to your question. Yes they are quieter than the ones on the 580 TF. As I've commented before, below 50% fan speed, I genuinely can't hear them over the pretty quiet fans that I have in my case. Pretty much every review I've read comments that in normal use they are pretty good. If they had been noisy, I would have DSR'd it and got an ASUS 670 DC. At 60C the fans are only running at 44/45% and if anyone can hear that... then they either have superman like hearing, or defective fans on the card.

Though like any actively cooled card, should you have a really high ambient room temperature, then they will obviously start to spin up. As an example, I have a friend in India (30C even during the evenings) and he complains about the fan noise on his Gigabyte WF 670, as they have to spin up a fair old bit to combat the heat. Just an example to demonstrate that no card can be totally quiet in all condition. It will be the same with the MSI card.

My issue with the fans is that they are about 1 year olde and
the bearings are noisey as **** , at low RPM it is unbearable I have to set it to about 60% to avoid the noise
