MSI GTX780 Lightning due 07/08/13

A shame we won't see your ivy e scores till' September :(

So what's going to be needed to de-throne the titans? 2ghz?

@kaap, I can handle the red chaps ;):p

Haha still premium cards kaap, still fetch around £300 each, especially as they're eol now. Enough to take a chunk out of a 780 lightnings price tag anyhow.

What's been happening with the red guys now? Work and a screaming 7 week old poop machine have left me a little out of the loop so to speak.

Ah I understand, I can probably imagine what's been going on though :p

Yep, lightnings and ivy e are my treat to me, can easy bench while I'm feeding him :D

From my understanding they're either available direct for purchase on the 7th or just reveal and pre order the 7th. First public final design batch has already been created too so I'm hopeful on being able to purchase one on the 7th.

@8 Pack, rough time scale on when we'll see your results? Fancy doing some quick 3d11 air runs too?

@Kaap, I wish but I'm not hopeful, 770 lightnings are so cheap next to the gaming edition as msi didn't have to do any r&d at all. I'll be happy at sub £650.

Understood :)

Neliz is giving away quite a bit on ocn anyhow ;)

Quite interested to see the new twin frozr cooler despite it going on water at the earliest opportunity.

Elmors firestrike extreme scores and screens are up, 7200+ gpu score with afterburner showing the cards throwing out a 217% power limit

He still had room on the slider too, indicating abx for these cards will allow well over 300% power limits.

Not great news for watercoolers wanting this card

reply from EK.

Dear Customer,

Thank you for contacting EK Support.

Due to recent amount of work with several other blocks and items, we are not planning to make a fullcoverd waterblock for this videocard in near future.
However if we change our plans we will publish that under news section.

If you need any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I wouldn't buy into that for a few reasons...

Work on several other blocks? Like what? The next thing to be released is the HD9000's and I seriously doubt EK have been sent ES PCB's.

They always say 'no plans' until the block has a final design and always say any changes will appear in the news section.

MSI have sent EK PCB samples to make blocks, EK wouldn't throw up an opportunity to make blocks for such a prestigious card, let alone they could potentially **** MSI off, ruling them out of any future help with advanced block design.

Its not beyond the realms of possibility that EK are under NDA from MSI either.

Worst case, EK don't make any, we push aquacomputer into making some, which are far superior blocks IMO.

Classified will get them as evga have the 780 classified hydro copper in the works.

EK have to look at it as an easy 75% of potential lightning buyers won't have any intention of running the card on air. My bet is on EK announcing it within a week of the cards release.

Ask me anything! :p

Was already registered here (2005) way before I started at MSI (2010) .. mostly just to drool at the boxes of GPUs :p

Haha, I understand most if not all of this can't be answered directly due to NDA's etc...

Are we still on for a 07/08 release to public, or is this going to be a showcase with the cards to follow a few weeks after?

If EK refuse to play ball over waterblocks do you guys at MSI have any other block manufacturers lined up?

Looking forward to having Lightnings littering the top spots on every bench thread going? ;)

btw, I'm here in my own free time (as I'm on my holiday now) so I'm not doing any warranty/service stuf.. just.. shedding some light here and there :p

Just product information is fine with me, OcUK have very good warranty terms with MSI as is, so they'll deal with all that stuff :)

It's honestly the most beautiful thing I worked on.. and I did the Z87 MPOWER (and XPOWER) boards!

Can't say anything, just that we will launch a graphics card ... and it's black and yellow :p

Sweet, it sounds epic, despite aiming for water with these, I'm looking forward to seeing the new TFV cooler.

There are more, but EK has my personal preference as well. please be noted that EK currently do a lot of work for other manufacturers as well, so those blocks will not be ready at launch.

Yeah, its usually the same with EK, from reading some of their think cell posts, they still have a little catching up to do with Z87 blocks before thinking about anything else.

As always.. I love the competition, but I love it even more when we're on top.

When are they not, haven't Lightnings been consistently the fastest cards benched dating back to the GTX200 days?

Kaap if you get more then two you're going to need to get running dual psu's!!

You hit 4 of those at 1.45v+ with high clocked x79 something's going to melt on a single 1200w :p

true true.. but it requires more than just a good GPU. At launch, that good GPU will nab you a top spot (see Elmors scores right now) but he isn't testing with an awesome CPU yet.

Thats pretty much what 8 Pack said earlier in the thread, I guess the major overall system score benchers are waiting for IB-E NDA to lift before going full tilt.

Thanks again for posting on here too :)

Benching, probably ~1.35v with the fans ramped up. I remember reading a 7970 lightning review where they put the fans to 100% & ran at 1.35v with something like 1275mhz and the card didn't break 60c. So given that this new cooler is better we should be ok benching at around that voltage on air.

Kingpin managed 1400mhz at 1.35v on air with a 780 classified, so we're probably looking at speeds in the 1300-1450 range before water and big volts.
