MSI Lightning 7970 CF or 680 SLI Queries

Changed the fps limiter with that command and still only showing GPU usage at 80% :(

I've noticed something strange about my MP GPU usage.

I'm fairly certain I used to get solid 95-99% but now on some maps I get like 60-70% per card! And that's in Surround.

I fired the game up, played two maps (Metro and another) and was getting solid 95% usage. But then Damavand and Seine, getting low 60's.... Might need to re-install Windows. I've messed around loads with installing drivers etc.

Tried 306.23 which made it better but 306.97 gave poor GPU usage across the board. Might go back further to see if it helps... it's an odd one.

Good point on the drivers Rusty. I also have messed about loads recently and the 304.79s seemed to give the most solid performance across the board but I have not tested the 306.97s thoroughly. I am currently on the 97s and CBA messing about.

Maybe this is what it is but if I am honest, I can't stomach BF3 anymore. No reason other than I have played it soooooo much and now it just bores me.

I was using Eyefinity for about a month myself. Scaling was great with the OC's and turned down settings but i presume this was because the cards were the bottleneck at such a huge resolution.

I'll be getting the 3930K Haswell equivalent when it comes out so I'll have to wait till then to see if PCI-E 3.0 or the extra cache and cores make a difference for my setup.

Thanks for that btw Greg :)

No probs. I have the 3.0 fix working on mine and it does give a little extra but 2.0 is hardly being pushed, so I wasn't expecting big gains.

Not to bring an old thread up but im having trouble with my new msi 7970. I've used the 120hz hack on page 2 but inconstantly my monitor goes black then comes up again saying " I should use the correct DVI cable provided with my monitor" This is the cable i have been using that was supplied with my monitor.

Is they another alternative wire i need to buy that will guarantee me to use 120hz no problem with out the use of a hack?

I'm only using one monitor (BenQ xl2410T).

Weird, the hack works fine here - have you tried a different cable? Are you actually using dual link dvi cables?

Hey there thanks for your reply :) I hope i am :P heres a couple of screenies of the wire

This is also the error message i get quite often when the display decides to turn off and then come back on, i get hit with this message......

Also the picture quality whilst hacking to 120hz seems very washed out.

When i plug the dvi cable into the other dvi connector on the graphics card, I get like lots of artifacts all over the screen? :S
You can kind of see it on the next picture:

Try 100 or 110Hz rather then straight to 120Hz, its entirely possible the cable you are using can't carry enough bandwidth over single link.

I think the correct cable error is benqs way of saying out of range

This cable im using now displayed 120hz with a nvidia 680 with no error message, so is they an alternative wire i need to be buying please? Kind regards

Not sure, I just recall Vega (guy who showed me the driver mod) saying higher bandwidth cables will get better results, I'm using the cable that came with my Asus monitor and get 120hz with little fuss. Also remember single link has to push bandwidth over less pins/connections then dual link, so a cable working fine in native dual link wont give any indication on how well the cable will work in single link.

Alternatively you need an active MDP to DL-DVI cable, they cost around £70. This will give 120hz natively with no driver mods.

Hi bud thanks again for your feedback, it is appreciated!

Just been looking around google with the cable you told me about and there is a cable for £20 that is called:

Mini DisplayPort to DVI Cable - DisplayPort cable - mini-DisplayPort (M) - DVI-D (M) Connector A 1 - Mini-DisplayPort (20 pin) Male
Connector B 1 - DVI-D (25 pin) Male
System and Cable Requirements DP++ (DisplayPort++) port required on video card or video source for DVI and HDMI signal pass-through.

does this sound like the cable that could do the trick? I know its hard to say but cant link to competitors :D

That won't do it, its not 'active'. Unfortunately the active adaptors like the one linked below are far from cheap, but I can confirm they do what they say on the tin as I have one for when I'm jumping between drivers*.

Google: Startech Mini DisplayPort to DVI Dual-Link Active Adapter – USB Powered to get results, it seems OcUK are no longer stocking this?

*You will need to re-apply the patch every time you update drivers as it will un-patch atikmdag.dll

Try set any refresh above 60hz, (75, 100 or 110hz) to check that it is indeed working, as I've seen a few try the patch and have to settle for 100hz.
