MSI MAG Tomahawk X870/X870E Owners Thread

Well, a new bios for X870 as well: 7E51v1A51

Description:
- AGESA PI-1.2.0.3e released.
- Support all 64GB*4 DRAM chips and optimized 2DPC 1R capability.
- Samsung 4Gx8 chip OC optimized.
- Support future CPU.

This one actually has a build date in june, so it's much more recent than the last one.

Well that'll teach us to test drive their BIOSes.

Tried to downgrade, wouldn't enter M-flash (error code 0d), second time it worked, but ended up downgrading using BIOS flashback.

Watch out. A60 was quickly taken down and replaced with A61 later today. Build date was 15th June vs 23rd(?). I have both downloaded now! A61 seems OK for now.

Just another example of it not paying to be at the forefront of any build, whether it be bios or software. I'll get around to flashing the new one, I got a bit slack in checking.

Just a general comment for lurkers. No issues at all with my MSI MAG Tomahawk X870 Wifi. That being said, the Realtek ALC4080 audio chip is awful for Linux compatibility. I cannot for the life of me get it working, many posts detailing similar issues.

Is it possible to have an option to always select the boot drive on boot? I am switching between W11 on one M.2, and Linux on another M.2 (physical separation, not dual boot) a few times per day for testing. My currently workflow seems cumbersome and wanted to check I wasn't missing anything. I've checked in the BIOS but couldn't see anything obvious.
  1. Boot into BIOS.
  2. Navigate to Boot\UEFI Hard Disk Drive BBS Priorities.
  3. Swap Boot Options to what I require.
  4. Save and exit BIOS to restart.

Isn't there a quick key you can press during boot that opens an in-place boot menu? (F12?)

Wow that was easy. F11 for the boot menu. The pain of having such as fast boot time is that the screen showing the options (DEL for BIOS, F11 for boot menu, Ctrl+F5 for M-Flash) disappears so fast. I needed to take a photo. Thanks!

I have the same setup, I purposefully set it up so it would boot to Windows by default and I'd access Linux via the F11 menu. I believe if you want to be prompted to pick an OS, you need the primary bootloader to contain entries for both OS. Obviously the Windows one is on the Windows drive, but while setting up the Linux one, you can decided whether or not you keep it on the same drive or combine it.

It should be editable after the fact, if you care to change it.

Out of curiosity, does anyone have the mass of the X870 variant? Can't find it on any of MSI's specs or any review websites. I can take mine out of the case, but would prefer not to if someone has already done this. Only for documentation so don't go out of your way!
