MSI MegaRAID 8888ELP non-RAID?

Hi

I have a couple of MSI MegaRAID 8888ELP controller cards. I was hoping someone could tell me whether drives attached to the card must be configured in a RAID array, or can they be set up independently? Basically, I want a seperate drive letter for every drive attached to the cards.

LSI surely?

Having had a quick flip through the manuals it looks like JBOD isn't supported so the only way to have a letter per drive is to set up a load of single disk RAID0 arrays - this is specifically noted in a couple of places in the manual.

rpstewart, whereabouts in the manual did you read about single disk RAID 0? I've had a look through the MegaRAID SAS Software User Guide (the 22.85MB one) and can't see anything.

Page 181, point 3:

"3. Select the RAID level desired for the virtual drive.
When you use simple configuration, the RAID controller supports RAID levels 1, 5,
and 6. In addition, it supports independent drives (configured as RAID 0). The
screen text gives a brief description of the RAID level that you select. The RAID levels
that you can choose depend on the number of drives available. To learn more about
RAID levels, see Chapter 2, Introduction to RAID."
