MSI: *Offical* N460GTX Hawk 1GB OC Edition thread

Got my 2 hawk talon attack's today :D only thing is one of the cards is DOA :( so now have to wait for the rma before i can have some SLi fun :(

anyway not done much in the way of benching the one that works but have noticed something a little strange i run the W.E.I. and got 1 for graphics and 2 for gaming graphics  the only other thing i have run is 3dmark 11 and got P3370 which i thought was a little low (i'm running the 260.99 drivers if it makes a difference) anyway off to do some more benching :)

Re - 3Dmark11. I get 3,742 with a single card and other kit as per sig. (and mines OC'd a reasonable bit). So I would have thought yours is probably not that far off the mark. Though WEI looks strange!

just got round to doing something on my pc after sorting the kids out and entertaining a few mates and noticed i had no sound? also the 4th core on my phenom II is loaded almost 100% all the time so fired up task manager to see what was using so much and the highest i saw was 2%

Here's a little pic to show you what i mean
WTF.jpg

1) 22% load but only one program using the cpu??
2) 4 Nvidia HD audio devices replacing my onboard sound
3) #3 loaded none stop between 70-100%
4) strange, very strange LOL

anyway before noticing the sound and core loading problem i ran Heaven benchmark max everything and here are the results :)
Unigine2011-01-0421-53-09-19.jpg

up from my 5850's score of 358 14.2 fps min fps 5.9 and max fps 35 :D can't wait to get the other one back from rma

anyway i got the sound working one of the devices had been changed to "MEDIA" ? so reinstaled the driver by doing a search and it's back, so just left with the cpu loading issue, it has to be something to do with the drivers or something i'm guessing...... anyone got any ideas??? :)

Are those the default settings for heaven?
If so, that score looks a little low. Run it at least twice, as I see from the very low min FPS that that must be from just one run. The first time you run it, it always appears to give a very low min FPS.

Mine at default Heaven settings same resolution as you (PC as per sig.);

FPS 39.4
Score: 998
min FPS: 27.1
max FPS 89

no i run most benchmarks with max settings i will run the bench again when I'm finished reinstalling windows :)

mikeo what drivers would you recommend i was running the 260.99's but i wasn't that happy with them

Hi,

Just bought the Titan Exodus system off overclockers and got this graphics card as part of the setup. Unfortunately after half a day, windows device manager reported that it has "stopped this device because it has reported problems Error code 43".

Computer worked ok for the first half a day connected to my LG 42" HDTV via DVI to HDMI, The next day though the graphics card stopped working.
The computer boots up using onboard vga graphics. I've tried roll backing the drivers and reinstalling the ones from the MSI website, as well as later ones from Nvidia. They install fine, but the card still doesn't work.

I've sent the card back to overclockers under RMA to replace, but i'm wondering if anyone else has had a failure like this, could it be cause at all by connecting to an HD tv rather than a traditional monitor?

Cheers,

Using 260.99's myself and not noticed any problems. Fallout 3 stopped responding a few times, but I think this has a few issues with Windows 7 at times. Other than that, things appear to run OK.

What problem/s have you had?

Well started off with one of the cards i bought not working (tested in all 3 pci-e slots) then when the drivers were installed on the card that does work the sound stopped working and when i did get sound i had the strange thing with the 4th core on my phenom II being loaded between 60-100% all the time so i decided to do a fresh install of win 7 (long overdue) and things are starting to get better well apart from OCUK testing the other card only to say it's fine :( the worse part is i don't have a penny to my name untill next week and have to pay to get the card back... wish i had stayed with my 5850 now :(

Sorry to hear about your problems.

Can't offer any advice re- SLI setup. Though the one card not working sounds a little odd! I have seen some issues regarding 460's and AMD motherboard compatibility. Some of your problems could come from swapping from ATI to Nvidia, but if problems persist after W7 re-install....

Best idea would be to take both cards round to a friends and test in another system. Though I suspect you will have already thought about this. At least this would definitely narrow down / eliminate the graphics cards as an issue.

Chin up and don't let it beat you.

Well got the card back and it works :):cool: anyway haven't done much testing yet but plan to finish a thread i started a few days ago, but here's my Unigine results single card & sli

anyway back to testing lol, so glad the 2nd card works now but have no idea why it didn't before but hey what ever i'm almost £30 lighter now but it works :D, thanks for your words of encouragement mikeo i'm so glad it worked out in the end :)

Oh i think i remember someone asking about temps in sli the max recorded temp on the top card 63'c and the bottom card 49'c, in single card config the top card run fully loaded @ around 65'c that's without tweaking the fan profile in afterburner

yeah the newer cards do seem to scale quite well compared to the 260GTX i run before and way better than the 8800gt, 7800gt and 6800gt set-ups i used before that 3d mark 11 on the other hand don't seem to like SLi as i only get 100 extra points  vantage scores jumped from:

Yep. Looks like 3Dmark11 isn't optimised for SLI yet.
Though more probably an Nvidia driver issue.

more than likely :) oh well it's only a benchmark, gaming performance is improved so far metro 2033 has gone from 15-24 fps to 25-45 @ max settings @ 1080p albeit still a little too slow to play sometimes, hopefully i'll get chance to do some more testing tomorrow

Can someone answer me this.. I've never SLI'd before and was wondering if it was fine to pair up an (buying) Hawk Talon Attack with an Hawk SOC (currently in system)? Am I right in thinking, if I match the speeds of the Talon I should be ok?

Have now had the report from the RMA testing from OCUK and the card works fine apparently. Have now agreed with them that if it still doesn't work when it's returned to me, they will test the whole system, since it was all bought from them.

Could it be due at all, to hooking up the PC to an HDTV only (ie i have no other monitor)? There were a couple of occasions, before windows stopped the card completely, when a message appeared in the system tray and would report something like "Kernel has failed and has now restarted". I presume that the message was related to the graphics card.

The tv is a pretty recent LG 42LD790, and was connected via DVI to HDMI cable and displayed at native resolution (1080p).

Cheers.

iirc the faster card will run @ the same speed as the slower one but then you could just use afterburner to overclock both cards to "talon spec" or above

i'm using a samsung 27" as my monitor and haven't noticed any problems, it's just a display after all, before i moved my pc into my office i had it hooked upto my 46" tv via dvi to hdmi again without issue.

sound like a software issue to me, i take it everything was ok before putting the new card in? what was your old card was it another nvidia card or amd (ati)? whats the spec of the rest of the system?

razer cheers for the reply.

Its a brand new Titan Exodus from OCUK, was told to send only the graphics card in, seems like that was the wrong call if its actually fine. I get the card back today so am going to test again tonight. Will try reinstalling drivers (which i tried originally), then rollback to when i first turned on, failing that reinstalling windows 7.
It worked ok for the first half of the day, then the next day when i turned on the next day, windows device manager stated "windows has stopped this device as it has reported problems".

Here are the specs:
Case: Antec 300 Gaming Case
- Power Supply: Corsair CX 600W
- CPU: Intel Core i5 760 2.80GHz overclocked to 4.00GHz
- Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3 Intel P55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 Motherboard
- Cooler: Corsair H50 CPU Cooler

Tested the returned card last night. Found the same problems when i reinstalled the card and booted up. Ended up temporarily fixing it by disabling and re-enabling the card.
I then throughout the evening proceeded to have the card crash on me nearly 10 times, sometimes when trying a game (Dawn of War so really should be a piece of cake for this pc) other times when browsing settings or folders.
By crash i mean small white squares appeared all over the screen in a checkerboard fashion, which would then flash a multitude of different colours. The mouse would lock up and keyboard would not respond. Then either of two things would occur.
1 The display would return to normal and a message in the system tray would read, nvidia graphics driver kernel has failed and has recovered.
2 The display would turn blank and no input would be detected, removing and reinserting the HDMI cable did nothing and a hard reset had to be done. This would then leave the pc with vga graphics and the device manager stating "windows has stopped the device (GFX card) as it has reported problems.
This could be fixed by again disabling and re-enabling the card.

The driver i am using is from the MSI site and is version

I also tried the most recent version from Nvidia 260.99, but this leaves the card unable to be restored by disabling and re-enabling, so appears to be worse.

Am thinking of having the whole pc RMA'd, any suggestions though?
