MSI to offer 55% launch-day discount on P55 motherboards

Any idea what order number is the cut off for the GD80 boards? That will solve us some waiting... although by your 3 minute comment I guess I know the score... The other offers don't look very tempting compared to what we were hoping for, but of course it's fair deal to OC for offering anything at all.

Bah! Oh well, well done to those who got it... but I'll permit myself one grumble as I hit order confirm at 14:02 and then it took 5 minutes to get my card authorised! Seems a bit rotten given the £k I've spent over the last few months with no issues ;-)

There is a huge potential for this to get messy and it all go horribly wrong.

Me and Fatboy will be making all the calls to ensure this goes as smoothly as possible.

I will stress again the allocation on these boards is strictly on a first come first served basis, everyone will be offered the options above stock permitting.

Once I am done I think I may write a nice email to MSI explaining how many things they did wrong on this launch. :o

You might want to think about that because two of those options look dangerously close to switch-selling which is very much illegal.

The customers can cancel the order first and foremost, we are offering a discount which they can choose to take on the other product if they wish to.

If anyone needs time to think about it and lets us know they are more than welcome to think about it and get back in touch after we have made the initial call.

I am only trying to get something sorted for our customers, its better than us turning our backs and cancelling the oversold boards I think you will agree. :)

Hes not forcing them to take any product, hes said it was a error on there behalf because so many people rushed orders, hes giving you 3 options, not saying this is what you have to have.

TBH good work mate, its things like this why OcUK have a good rep.

What about those who waited until after 2pm in good faith and were then unable to place an order ??

OK - I can see where you're coming from but of the four suppliers listed on Bit-tech the one that only does business on-line definitely had 20 GD-65s available at 14:06. One never seemed to post the promo at all, they may even have had a secret link for 'special customers', OcUK seem to have done something all of their own and one just posted that they were all sold out, but as I'm not on their mailing list it's possible that they also had a special mail-shot or they could have sold them in-store I suppose.

I think the only thing that we know for certain is that MSI and their launch partners have made a right old horlicks of this. And we probably have various pieces of competition legislation to blame. Actually - MSI have probably cocked up there too by not offering the promo across all outlets they have given 4 specific launch partners a market advantage. Oh well. I know that Consumer Direct are looking into this for a friend of mine who works in Bradford. Doubtless it'll be on Watchdog next.

Now no one has accused them of switch selling, someone said it sounded like it.

I think the point being made was that "trying to keep the order" by offering an alternate product comes close to the definition linked above. There is no "forcing" about it, as when people are being dodgy (which I'm NOT trying to imply) they don't force a sale either, it's a persuasion, or foot-in-the-door tactic.

You may want to look up the definition of switch-selling. In switch selling you buy, order or visit a showroom to look at a specific product that is almost too good to be true. Then the salesman apologies and tells you that they're all sold out, but he has this other really good deal...

Sound familiar?

[Edit]Just spotted the post above that makes looking up the definition easy[Edit]

Well I'm awaiting the dreaded call/email. I've updated the number on my account to reflect my mobile number.

Q tho, the 10 G65 boards being offered, are they being offered at the G65 offer price or the G80 offer price? If it's the G65 offer price I would take that option, otherwise the refund is the only option viable (imho).

Thanks for working so hard on this Yewen, it's appreciated. MSI may find they lose more custom than they gain from this little fiasco.

Would you be able to tell us when the e-mails have been sent to customers who are guaranteed to get a GD80 please Yewen? Just so we can know as quickly as possible where we stand?
Thanks very much

I cannot access home emails from here at work, if I am to be contacted post here or pm / call please?

Edit- changed email to work address hope this works

Sorry for not being clear on this one, they are being offered at the original promotional price for the GD65.

I have updated my original post to reflect this.

I will let everyone know when we have hit send.

Sometimes the path to hell is paved with good intentions. We, personally, I like to think, have a good relationship and I think you are doing a fabulous job both generally, and in these particular circumstances, but offering to swap a GD80 for a CD3 or an £85 board for a £96 less feature rich board (even with a discount) is dangerously close to switch selling, and I don't want to see you have to take time answering questions from a Stoke/Staffs TSO.
