MSI X570 Tomahawk WiFi Bios Flash button, how to tell if it's worked?

mine just flashed for 3-5 mins - is it done it didn’t like re boot and cpu light still on near 24 pin

I'm doing mine as we speak - no reboots and the USB has stopped flasing but the CPU light is still on. I'm presuming it's because there is no CPU installed, so I'm going to turn it off now and hope that it worked.

I successfully flashed my bios to the latest beta bios on the MSi website with just the power connected, nothing else as none of it had arrived and I was impatient.

With mine it rebooted 3 times and kept flashing all 3 times then it just stopped, but it was all good.

Hey guys thank you so much. You helped me out a lot. Unfortunately i think MSI really did a bad job with this board.
It started to boot and work with the 5800X but ONLY if i use my second slot PCIE! The first will not boot and the VGA Led will show up.

since the second pci e slot is powered by the chipset and not the cpu it does not really run on x16. So i will send the motherboard in. I will try another board today, its a b550.

for me the flashing worked with a sandisk usb 64 gb ram usb 3 stick!

Question guys, can I try and see if it posts without it being plugged into the case and without the cooler installed and without cpu paste or is this a bad idea?

I used a USB 2.0, with a single MSI.ROM file. My USB started to flash rapidly and the fan was spinning, then it turned itself and came back on.
I waited for 10-15 minutes until the lights and usb stopped flashing. The fan was still spinning though and the motherboard debug lights seemed to be on throughout im hoping that's ok?

Sounds like everything went just as it should do and was successfully completed.

Hi,

I lurked on this thread for awhile before getting my setup to work and will post how I managed to get through to post.

My setup is powercolour 5700xt, Ryzen 5600X, MSI X570 Mag Tomahawk Wifi. Ram is currently 1 stick of 3600mhz Corsair vengenace. I do have a second I will install later on.

For my successful BIOS flash, the lights would flash for about 3 minutes, then stay on. The CPU light would be on the whole time. I then left the computer for 30 minutes, it wouldn't power off via the case so I switched off via the PSU.

I then turned it back on and got the post, currently installing windows.

A few issues I had with the bios flashing was the lights under the "bios" usb port would flash 3 times and nothing, this was clearly the usb not being read.

Another time, after "my version of a successful bios flash" the motherboard would flash the CPU light quickly, then off and then the VGA light would come on. This was because my VGA was not being fully powered so it's definitely the VGA if this comes up.

TLDR: It doesn't necessarily have to reboot as mine did not but perhaps wait a full 30 minutes or maybe even an hour if it does not reboot. It was a random cheap 8gb usb stick that worked for me, I cleared it with rufus before copying the non beta bios version.

Thanks to the overclockers support advisor, who put my nerves at ease. He mentioned to let him know how it went on and I hope he sees this. Good luck to everyone else.

Yes so the bios update seemed to work, it recognises my 5800x as well as the memory and storage (I dont see any mention of the gpu though which is a bit odd).

I have 2 problems at the moment though, firstly my DDR4 ram is only being recognised as have a speed of 2133 mhz and I'm not sure why as it should be 3000mhz.

The bigger problem however is the issue I'm facing trying to install windows 10. Had no issues with my display until part way through the installation, its at the point where it asks you to choose you're region however the screen keeps going blank. I have clicked a few buttons and it displays something for a split second before going back to blank.

I have no idea why this might be, im assuming my hardware is OK as it has no issues when I'm in the bios menu. Has anyone else had this issue?

Should the bios be showing the GPU details anywhere? I'm not seeing it currently, all the other components are fully defined but not seeing my radeon 6800 in the bios

I mean it must be detecting because the 5800x has no on board graphics as far as I know so I presumably wouldn't get a display of it wasn't recognised

Ok all working now, thank god, I just couldn't figure why the windows installer wasnt working properly and after contact Microsoft I was still got no where. Thankfully I went on a hunch and tried a different form of display (my tv) and managed to get Windows 10 all installed. It still wasnt detecting my GPU so I had to install the latest drivers but after that and a quick restart i'm up! Stressful but my first PC build is done :)

Hi sorta need advice asap if you can - did everything right and it flashed for about 3-5 mins but it didn’t restart but I don’t know if i missed it or not. There’s a solid white led signalling cpu still on - I don’t know whether to try again or it’s done help

Sorry for the late reply, I didn't get any notifications from this site. Did you put the RAM in? Mine did the same, CPU LED light went away quietly after I tried booting with the RAM inserted.

Hi, Just tried to do this with a 2.0 but only got the mobo fans whirring and a white led flashing light for about a minute. No reboot. The white flashing led stopped. My concern is that there was no reboot and the led was white. Does anyone know if led should be red?

Does anybody know what it means if the bios flash button only causes the LED to blink for a handful of seconds?

I'm struggling to determine whether i've already updated the BIOS and didn't notice it working the first time or whether something has gone wrong.

Also is the only way to check to install a CPU and GPU so I can view a post screen to check the bios version? Which could be difficult as my only CPU is one of the new Ryzens.

I've downloaded this one from the MSI website:

Version
7C84v14
Release Date
2020-11-04

Renamed it to MSI.ROM on the root of a FAT32 formatted USB drive but I never noticed the LED light near the USB port flashing for any extended length of time so think something may have gone awry.

I have MSI MAG B550M Mortar Wifi. I also had problems with updating BIOS to that relese you mentiod. With 7C94v194(Beta) version BIOS update went just fine. Sandisk 3.0 16GB. One automatic boot at the begining of the process and second at the end. I haven't intalled cpu or memory yet. Tomorrow...5600X and 32GB 3600Mhz CL16 Ballistic.
