Looks like the R9's are going to be wayyy more expensive than any of us had thought/been planning on:

http://videocardz.com/46558/amd-radeon-r9-290x-r9-290-european-pricing-unveiled

MSI's pricing for their cards is basically 649 Euros for 290X and 519 Euros for the 290 - so the prices we've been seeing of 730 US for the BF4 Edition (which a lot of us have pre-ordered) is probably going to work out as 700+ Euros/Pounds - WAYYY more than what we'd been hoping for. I guess early adopters are getting stung again... Ah well...

It's what "the market will bear" apparently.

Stop buying these cards if you don't want to keep paying silly money. Please don't complain then go out and buy one anyhow.

Where are you getting £700 from? It'll be more like £550 and £450 for the 290x and 290, respectively.

Remember, the £550 you're quoting for the 290X is for the bare card, not the Limited Edition BF4 Bundle that they will happily charge a premium for.... Plus we usually get screwed on the conversion rate - UK customers usually pay more for electronics than anyone else in Europe. 650 Euros is about £550 as a straight conversion, plus say £55 for the game itself, plus whatever 'premium' the companies think they can get away with for the BF4 edition. So I may have guesstimated a bit high - maybe the bundle will be in the £625-£650 range - but still way over the £400-£450 we were hoping it would be - particularly given comments I saw from people at GPU14 (like Kyle Bennett from HardOCP) which seemed to make out that the AMD guys there were laughing at the prices being quoted on some websites at the time saying it was going to be a 600 dollar card - the inference being that 600 was on the high side...

Price doesn't really bother me it's to be expected now, I'm used to being shafted by Nvidia anyway, if the cards are £450ish I might switch... something new to play with.

I didn't see that you'd mentioned the BF4 edition. In that case, I'd agree with your revised estimates. I like the idea of a BF4 special edition, but I just can't deal with reference coolers anymore.

I don't think MSI will know what the pricing will be until AMD does.

Another rumour for room 101.

I'd imagine most of the manufacturers have their prices ready, but obviously they will all be under NDA about pricing.

who cares about price, aslong as it owns the 780 or titans arse we aint bothered :p

Highly unlikely it will own either, at the very most I can see a 5% lead over a TITAN depending on resolution.

Not quite sure what AMD are doing if these prices are correct.

"look guys we have something that beats a 780 and snaps at the heels of a Titan...for an insane...but not quite as insane price"

Too little too late from AMD really and £100+ too expensive.

Needed to be under £350 for the 290 and under £450 for the 290x for it to shake things up and actually be a worthwhile release ( for consumers that is)

Not that these numbers are particularly believable but the US doesn't add sales tax onto their numbers as you don't have to pay it in many circumstances(afaik if people order online from other states they end up not paying it?) Either way US prices are essential ex vat, european ones aren't, so you wouldn't add vat again on top, Euro prices translate loosely to UK ones, US translate to pounds then add vat.

It was always very possible these would be very expensive, but it's still a bit of a pee take. It's going to end up with noticeably lower yields than the 7970, its what 15% or more bigger, which instantly means the same wafer cost produces less chips per wafer, but as you get bigger the overall failure rate increases, so they should cost 30% more than a 7970 give or take. Of course a 7970 can go for £200 now, but that is more a case of selling below cost at £200 today is better than selling below cost at £150 after the release of new cards. You can't say for sure that AMD make a profit on a 7970 at £200.

Ultimately I think the prices won't end up that bad and the EUro zone generally gets less stock than the UK. Generally speaking the far east, US and UK are the "big" zones that tend to get most stock earliest and places like Aus/europe, get gouged worse than we do.

Basically I still wouldn't believe the pricing, price points has ALWAYS been a big things with gpu/cpu/mobo sellers. AMD are going to ignore entirely the 279-519 price points........ basically not a chance. This will most likely be a case of price gouging the first few batches to make a little extra profit or just place holder prices, you don't want to get any pre-orders than find out the price is 150 higher, but 150 lower, everyone walks away happy.
