MSI's pricing for R9 290/290X - OUCH

I'm sure many people did, audio quality is one area PC gaming has been stagnant for years and is even lagging behind old consoles.

Pricing wise is it not usually more in Euro's, so this should be £500-500, more than i was wanting but i'm sure these will still sell well, might damage AMD's reputation, but better to have a damaged reputation and a successful business than a good reputation but bleeding money.

If AMD give people the run around and take the £$%^ pricewise on this pre order scheme for the R9 290X, it will be remembered for a very long time.

Spot on Kapp. It looks like all that "boo, hiss Nvidia pricing sux" from some people was a bit hypocritical if they even consider buying the new top end from the red team. The 780 is/was expensive but now AMD have a small lead they have proven to be just as bad but they need to remember why a lot of people hold them in such good regard. In a lot of ways they are loved for being kind of the underdogs and people dont mind a small performance hit like for like if the price difference is so big. I hope they are not so arrogant as to think because they are now faster they will just say eff you ,charge what they want and people will buy anyways. I hope this pricing is wrong as AMD have, since improving drivers, prices and free game bundles, built up a lot of goodwill within the community. I really hope they dont throw that away before they have good chance to build upon it

It seems to me that a lot of those people ARE more than a bit miffed at the situation and aren't willing to pay silly money.

There are always exceptions of course...

Too right. They have had the perfect storm as well with all the Nvidia hate as all they had to do was listen to the complaints. Yes the 7970 was a good deal compared to the 780 but its also 2 years old at this point. Its the same in all walks of life where people love a company for being consumer friendly then they get bigger, become less respective of the buyers and gradually forget what made them popular in the first place. Usually takes time for the popular ones to lose people though and it seems AMD may have believed their own hype. Againh though, I hope not.

If there's already plenty of people out there who'd buy a Titan which is ridiculously expensive for a single card than lets face it at even £600-700 the 290X will sell anyways.

In-bloomin-deed :)

Even though we all knew the that the new AMD range was basically going to be a re-skin along the same as lines as Nvidia's refresh, I still can't believe that we've pretty much just got the same old cards - some that aren't even as good as the models they're replacing
Prices aren't too bad and that's about the best you can say about them...

Perhaps good business and surely cheaper than coming up with a brand new range, but slack nonetheless.

As for the 290's... If they're around double the price of the 280s for significantly less than double the performance, then AMD ****** up and deserve all the crap they get.
Seeing as they seem to be following the Nvidia framework, it ain't looking good.

Hopefully, we're just bitching like old grannies and AMD will prove us wrong :D

True, there are always those who are willing to pay whatever for the latest shiny toy.
In Titan's defense, the fact is that it was way more powerful than anything else at the time (single gpu). It was semi-understandable.
Still an utter ****-take, but understandable.

In my eyes, both Nvidia and AMD are not to blame for the high prices for the top tier enthusiast gpu's. We as consumers are. Both manufactors have cards that can cope with any game at upto 1440p in around 250-300 quid. We dont need Titians, gtx780's, or 290x's..... We just want them!!

AMD are not forcing us to pay 600 quid to play a game. They have much cheaper cards that can do that simple task at a more reasonable price. But if want the best, you can pay for it.

Without a fps counter on single screen gaming, nobody could tell if weather a 280x or 290x is being used, with out removing the side pannel..

Guys look at it this way, prices from the article:

290X - 649€
290 - 519€
280X Gaming Edition - 279€
270X HAWK - 219€
270X Gaming Edition - 199€

OcUK Prices:

280X Gaming Edition - £249
270X HAWK - £184
270X Gaming Edition - £169

So as a (very) rough guide the UK prices are equal to the EU price minus 30-35 with the currency changed, that gives a (very crudely) estimated price of:

290X - £615-620~
290 - £485-490~

The is however the issue that the gap changes to ~15 for the 260/250 which means if it shrinks in the low end it may grow in the higher end, that and I'm talking nonsense as I've pulled an all night shift.
