Much of a diff between a amd 4400+ and a 6000+

Atm my mate has a 4400+ or it might be a 4200+ and Ive advised him to upgrade to a 6000+.. bad move?:mad:
I guess it be an ok upgrade if his getting the 6000+ for somewhere between free to £10

There no way i pay more then £10 for very old CPU like a 6000+

Its a AM2 with this board http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM2/M2V/#specifications

I built it for him about 5yrs ago but about 2yrs I upgraded his memory to decent corsair xms2 4gb, better cpu cooler and a faster hdd(Samsung F1 HD322HJ 320GB) to make it as stable and reliable as poss, as he started using his pc for work. That idea has worked as he has been running vista for the last 2yrs with very few probs.

So I thought a 6000+ would give it another nice boost as the hdd or mem wont be slowing things down, going from 2.2ghz to 3.0ghz?

Plus Im in the process of replacing his psu, as his enermax 480watt just gone pop.

Don't put any more money into it. It's too old.

Wrong, probably 60-70% or more of the worlds work /office PC's are of similar 4400+ capability, if it is for work and a fairly cheap upgrade and will lengthen the lifespan of the computer it is worthwhile. Other option is to overclock, but then you are stressing components with possible failure rates increasing.

Not wrong. Putting money into obsolete hardware is silly....and the distance in frequency is not going to be noticeable

Thanks guy, I told him that I made a mistake and other ppl said its not worth it... So I said when you want a new pc (motherboard, mem, cpu) it will cost about £200

So I thankyou once again guys.
