GoPro Hero 3 Black
DJI Phantom with stock mount
Touched up and lens corrected in PS

No, I was shooting 1080/30p with simultaneous stills (Only the Black can do this).
I've read the same thing about the 4k so I may try this myself. It does mean ditching the video though as 15fps isn't really useable.

I've just had an idea, haven't read the whole thread so sorry if it's been mentioned. How well do you think one of these would cope around water? Instead of attaching a gopro to oneself, you could go kayaking/skiing/mountain biking and deploy this above you with someone using the controls to follow as you do cool stuff :)

You can fly them over water, obviously wouldn't want to crash into the water mind!
If you look at the videos me and Flukester posted earlier on this page, both flying over water following surfers/dolphins etc.
I reckon chasing people mountain biking would be amazing if you were good enough at flying :D Would definitely need FPV for that!

This should be a good competitor to the Phantom and is out any day now. It has the same features (more actually e.g. geo fence), it's available for pre-order for £280 which is the BNF version so you can use a fully featured transmitter like the Turnigy 9XR with a DSM2/DSMX module (about £60) so about £340 all in compared to £450-£500 for the Phantom.
I have a Blade mQX and I think it's fantastic. If anything does go wrong you also have Horizon Hobby who have an office in the UK and they have a great reputation for helping with problems.

Barring any release hiccups I think I'd chose this over the Phantom, either way more competition in the marketplace is always good for us :)

Finger hovering over the buy button on a Hubsan X4 V2........:) PinkFloyd (and everyone else who bought one) did you get yours from the rainforest for £35.99?

Would you recommend the Blade 350QX over the Walkera QR X350?
I can't really say as I haven't seen either in the flesh, on specs they seem pretty similar.
However I think the UK based supplier and support of Horizon Hobby would tip it for me, lets face it all quads like this whether they're DJI, Walkera or Blade are cheaply made in China, being able to call or email someone who can fix a problem in the UK is handy.

I'm not too familiar with the Walkera models and frequencies but they seem to only be compatible with their own DEVO transmitters, even though some people aren't keen on Spektrum DSM2/DSMX you can get Tx modules for not much money (Orange) to plug into your JR, Futaba, Turnigy, FrSky etc. transmitters.

It may be worth waiting until people have their hands on both of them, I'm sure there will be people who do some comparison reviews :)

I'd recommend any Blade model over Walkera, due to their alignment with Spektrum, and the whole host of other companies under the same umbrella.

Even if the Walkera was better, being within Horizon Hobby is a good space to be :)

Pretty much as above!

In other news, managed to secure one of the Turnigy Talon Tricopter frames - I've already made a RCExplorer tricopter that's running real nice, but love this frame so had to get one.

I'll be running the following:

Sunnysky 2212 KV980 motors,
Hitec HS-65MG servo for tail,
KK 2.0 - already have one and like it,
Not 100 decided on props yet, I'll keep looking
Blueseries ESCs from HobbyKing flashed with SimonK.
Will add some FPV equipment to go with my AttitudeSD's from FatShark.
Gimble of some sort - already got a GP3 black, not sure which Gimble yet.

I've got a good few 2200mAh batteries, but these will probably not be that suitable (unless I run them in parallel), but will look at getting some 4000-4400 3s/4s for some fast action.

Yep. Found you can get it cheaper from Hong Kong but I couldn't wait 3-4 weeks for delivery! I wanted to play over the bank holiday weekend!

Re: Tripcopters - what's the benefit over a quad bar buying a few less bits? I'd have thought they wouldn't have been as agile or as stable as a plain quad.

What Remote transmitters does everyone recommend? I'm thinking if I build a quad I'll be looking to spend around maybe £150 all in initially. Aim of building something that later on I could consider cameras etc. Would a 4 channel remote be enough, or would I need 6+ if I wanted an ability to say turn lights on and off remotely separately to the main controls?

The X4 really doesn't seem bothered about slightly battered propellers. Managed to bend another earlier, vibrated like crazy when powering it up despite it still flying. Bent it back and it's fine again :D Might go fix the one I thought was knackered from yesterday, imagine that was only slightly bent too now!

Personally, I wouldn't buy either. I'd pay the extra and get the DJI Phantom. Here's why:

It uses the DJI Naza-M controller which is tried and proven. Many people use this system in lots of models so there's tons of support.
The flight controller (Naza-M) and GPS are discreet modules so if you bin it big style, just take the modules out and stick them on an F350 or F450.
Replacement parts for the Phantom are easy to come by.

OK, just gave the credit card a good bashing. It's hiding in my wallet now, probably crying.

I have bought:

Polarising filter for the GoPro Hero 3
Carbon fibre 2-axis gimbal for the F550
6 x 9x5 Graupner props for the F550
Dual battery mount for the Phantom
1M each of 10AWG power cable
10 pairs of 4mm HXT conenctors
4 x 8x5 GWS 3-blade props for the Phantom
Turnigy 2-in-1 Watt meter
8mm prop ream
4 x Turnigy Nano-tech 4S 5000mah lipos for the F550
