Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

To be fair the agility mode isnt exactly crazy fast. It does it it at first but now its pretty normal and stability mode is just tame

Aerial video is a tricky one with the x4. Camera mods needed to strip down the weight to as little as possible, plus the guard already adds a bit of weight

i meant with the Blade 200QX :)

Are right :) - Probably just flying at first. I would want to get a prop guard for it as wouldn't want to mangle £150 worth of drone into a wall. I do have a fake go-pro though, so would probably tape it to it as soon as I got it.

After holidays are out the way I might invest £350 into one plus a DX8.

The only down side for me is that I live in city centre so flying outdoors involves either walking to somewhere like a park or flying it out my window over roads and stuff

Any law against flying over traffic?

Don't so this

There are empty places to fly, you just need a to get out early :D

I've had a X4 for a few weeks and love it, I did order 5 batteries for HK but ended up getting a refund as they didn't turn up
I've flown it outside a few times and in expert mode its a great laugh, a prop guard is essential though as you will crash quite a few times.
I just need to find a different supplier for the batteries now.

I'd advise the ares ethos 130 I've got one for the money it's well worth it I've had mine about 4 weeks between 50 to 60 quid rtf

You can also get attachments a missile launcher , water pistol ,a winch and a sd card camera

Battery gives about 10 mind flight time and it's fairly stable and can handle windy days
I've had a few crashes 1 from about 40 metres up in the air and still works

Also spare battery's only a fiver from my local model shop

Made the decision to move away from the APM for the time being, I've not been able to iron out the bugs despite trying all sorts of things

Alt Hold didn't work properly and I couldn't stop it toilet bowling no matter how many times I re-calibrated the compass. I also had reports of bad gyro health in mission planner which I don't think was helping

I'm going to shelve it for now, might shove it on a FPV250 at some point and try playing with it but I want something nice and solid for the time being so I've ordered a Naza M V2, I hope it isn't a mistake!

You'll find the Naza very easy to set up compared to the APM.
I played with APM on my F550 for a while but I could never get it dialled in. It always felt sloppy no matter what I did. This was with 3.1 so with the auto tuning.
I'm sure that APM can fly better than Naza but I just wasn't willing to invest the 100s of hours needed to tune it.

Yeah that is exactly my reason for switching, I don't want to spend every weekend trying to get it right

I couldn't even auto tune my APM because I could never get it stable enough in Alt Hold mode

I'll come back to the APM at a later date but it will be on a second multirotor so I won't be bothered it doesn't fly well for a while

I've got a Hubsan x4 and its a great drone for the price. Think I paid £27 delivered when it was on a deal offer.

Don't expect it to be easy to fly as its not simple toy.

Stability mode is great to learn. I highly recommend you get a prop guard - http://www.wheelspinmodels.co.uk/i/231479/

The guard does drop a minute or so off the battery life but it doesnt matter as I have 5 and just keep charging them if you want to carry on using it.

For the size and price its fantastic and I often fly it out my 3rd floor apartment window and away ~50 meters (until I can almost not see it) It fights the wind very well

The next upgrade for me will be a Blade 200QX - although comes in at £150 + the cost of a TX, which is about another £150-£200. Something like a Spektum DX8

£350 is a totally different ball game to £27!

whats the flight time of the x4

I just wired up all -ves to all the -ve pads and all +ves to the +ve pads. You can't really do it wrong as long as you follow the labels on the pads and don't cross anything up.

Woop woop :D

Well done!

Please tell me its just a formality to renew in 12 months time, and you don't have to go though the whole process again?!
