Do you tune pids with switch configs or just do it via a laptop?

Set p to 4, then I and d to 0 and then just tune p first, come down then try upping i then d?

Some people tune them in the air

With cleanflight, you can set them in flight using some weird (s)witch-craft but I've bothered to work it out. I use the multiwii ezgui android app which works fine on my galaxy s6 with a USB-OTG cable, you can tweak all the other settings too if you pay for it. You can also do it via bluetooth but you will need and adapter for the naze.

I don't bother zeroing them (PIDS), just work from the defaults.
 
It does add another layer of complexity.

I've lost another mobius btw. That's 2 now. Despite it being tied onto the goddamn mini-h. Obviously not tied well enough. A motor died mid-flight, quite high just as I was on the edge of video signal. Took me 30 minutes to find the quad alone. The field I fly in, the grass is now waist height in places, doesn't make it easy to find things. Fortunately, the KISS ESC's alarm if they haven't had a signal for a few minutes and the directional/helical antenna on the monitor works quite well as a locator, as long as the battery doesn't come loose.

So last night I fixed the mobius holder thingy it comes with to the frame with several chunky zip ties, zip tied the mount and I will be tieing the mobius down as well.

I've also ordered some of this which I will be wrapping the mobius in, along with the arms of the quad. Just in case.

I'm also gonna get one of these

outch sorry to hear about the Mobius, I was really annoyed when I spent an hour looking for my one, luckily I found it

But I would hate to loose one


There must be a stronger line you could use to secure it. like strong fishing line in a few places though those little holes in the camera itself. also look at securing the holder, and use double sided 3M tape on the camer and the holder.


If your camera platform is the reason your mobius went missing IE if your camera mount came apart, use metal screws and bolts through the rubber mounts. not those stock plastic things.
 
To be honest, I was more hacked off about the memory card I had lost. I'm just starting to "get" flying FPV in rate mode so was looking forward to seeing the footage.

I've come to accept that a certain level of expenditure is required for this hobby. On the upside, I haven't broken anything else for a while, including props (touchwood) so I figure it all balances out.

I should probably try and calculate the cost per mile or flying minute at some point.

Or maybe not.
 
This is a cruel hobby for sure. I've hit so many minor humps that it's really putting my off. Not so much financial, just stupid little things which ruin a planned flying session.

Couple of weekends ago, I must have left my TX antenna in the field, can't find it. Ordered a replacement, which isn't here yet. So I was looking at my kit and getting ready for the weekend, my TH9X won't turn on. Popped the battery cover off and the LiFe battery is puffed. I didn't even leave the TX on at any stage. She's reading 0.5v per cell and fit for the bin. It's only about 5 cycles old! GRRRR
 
it is annoying, I feel the same after a few crashes, moved on temporarily to other hobbies :) It's great weather for mountain biking anyways :)

Ghandi, that would be cool just got a mental July schedule at weekends (2 weddings and a stag do..).

Try using autotune with Cleanflight. It worked really well for me with all 3 of my craft. Set a momentary switch to enable it and then you fly up somewhere safe, hold the switch and the craft will wobble on it's aileron axis, then release and hold again and it will wobble on it's elevator axis. Then fly around and if you are happy with the new PIDs, land, disarm, and hit the switch again. If you aren't happy then just land, disarm and switch off to clear the values back to what they were.
I have also got the Taranis set up to be able to adjust PIDs in flight. I have a switch set up to arm the motors in the middle position, and arm + PID adjust in the bottom position, with top being disarm. I've then got another switch that does a mix on this channel to switch between P, I and D adjustments, and the throttle trim switch then increases or decreases the value.
It took a while to set up but works really well.

I picked up a Devo 7e a few days ago which I've loaded Deviation on. What a great little tx. I've got a Hubsan and a FlySky/Syma module coming which I will solder in to the tx so I can fly all of my mini multis with the one tx. Should make things a lot easier and more portable.

I love mini multis. Got so many of the bloody things I think I might have a problem.....

Just got a Surveilzone HS1177 FPV camera with the joystick cable that allows you to make changes to the settings. Anyone got any any idea how I connect it up to my predator V2's or to a TV to see the changes?

The cable has a small 4 pin connecter that goes to the camera and then on the other end a BNC output and a 12v input.

To be honest, I don't know and I think it's a bit poor really. I think my Blackpearl monitor may have come with a BNC adapter but if it did, it's almost certainly in the bin by now!

It's put me off buying one of the smaller cams so far.

I would image you could just cut the BNC plug off and solder on a corresponding JST connector so you could temporarily wire it into the cam/vtx.

Managed to suss it, forgot my Predator's came with some cables which included a male RCA to 3.5mm headphone jack that goes into the goggles. I just bought a female to female RCA coupler and a BNC male to female RCA cable.

So will go camera->3pin (one end of Joystick cable) to BNC at the other end which will go to a BNC to RCA cable and then that cable will go to the Fatshark RCA to Headphone jack using a coupler, if that makes sense? If your interested in doing it I can post a photo once I have the parts next week.
 
Whilst I wait for a motor to come over from China I have been playing around with quadcopter "simulators" on my android tablet. The two that I use allow a usb gamepad to be used, with low / high rate and ACRO, Mode 1 and 2 and you can even set the throttle to only be the top half of the left analouge stick (which makes sense when you fly with it) and they are actually surprisingly fun.
