Mum fainted.

Anything which can restrict blood flow to the brain can cause fainting. Urinating is actually an activity which does reduce blood flow to your brain and can cause you to faint while peeing.

/interesting fact of the day

Although it is more common in men, it's perfectly possible for the decrease in blood pressure caused when you urinate to cause faints.

A mate of mine collapsed in a toilet cubicle once because of this. He fell and broke the toilet seat with this forehead and then bled everywhere. We ended up taking him to A&E to get some stiches, where the probable cause was explained to us.

Hope your Mum's OK, though. Must have been quite a shock :(

I was going to say this, it's actually quite common people fainting on the toilet.

I would faint a lot, been put down to low blood pressure/slow heart rate.

Really ****** experiance calling 999, had to do it twice. First time was after a car crash, 2nd time was out mountain biking in a forest when a mate hit a tree and broke his pelvis. The worst thing was, the ambulance operator wanted a road name before they would dispatch the ambulance - not so easy when your in a forest!

I've only had to call 999 once thankfully, it was the most surreal moment of my life, was in such a panic it was extremely difficult to explan who I was, the situation or where we were. I hope I never have to do it again.

Pretty damn scary thing to have happen, but if your Dad was only downstairs how come he hadn't already gone and checked why she was taking so long before you arrived home?

I passed out once just getting up off the couch, it was bizarre. Never experienced anything like it before or since.

this happens to me on a day-to day basis. sometimes more than once a day.

ive gotten rather used to it, and sometimes enjoy feeling the distinct parts of my brain shutdown in sequence.

you may or may not be interested to know that vision and visual processing are controlled by two different parts of the brain, and when starved of oxygen, the visual processing bits (as a heavy drain on resources) are the first to go.

its a VERY odd feeling, seeing something, but not knowing what it is.

sounds like you are pretty emotionally unstable, bit of a loose cannon so to speak..

uh-huh. so if a close family member of yours appeared to be gravely ill you wouldn't bat an eyelid? you sound like a right plank.

.

Dude that sounds bad, what about if it ever happens while your driving?

My mum died a few years ago but I'd be in total terror I think if that happened, especially for such a period of time - an hour or so you say? That would kill me. One of my friends found his mum dead in his bathroom from a diabetes comatose thing, not sure the specific details, and I could never cope with that.

Hope your mum's ok now and that whatever medical attention she needed was given. Please post back once it's been given the all clear or whatever so that we know it's not bad. Thinking about you.

She seems to be fine now. Not sure she has went to the doctor or not, I'll be on to her about it though.

Can't see her being pregnant, she's 58 (I guess it's still possibly. I dread to think).

He was in bed. Nearly every-night dad goes to bed about 9.30 then mum sits up and watches the TV for a while. I'm glad Chelsea was up to tell me (my niece) or I wouldn't even of noticed she was in there, so she would have been there to the morning.

If you faint do you waken after a while?

Wow, I feel for you. I guess you have got use to it, however.

Fair enough.

Its only ever happened to me once, i had no food and i went to the docs and had to give blood. i went all light headed and next thing i was gone.

Woke up with my head hurting and i said to the doc does your head normally hurt? he said not really but it does when you faint and it hits the wooden chair when you hit the floor!

went all red and said thanks hope i dont see you for a while hehe and went ot the shop and had loads of food to get my sugar levels back up.

Glad your mum is ok. i couldnt bear it if something happened to my mum and dad, i dont live with them or anything but they are prob the closes people in any ones live "mums and dads should live for ever"

my mum always faints at the sight of blood ect.
My brother broke his arm once, we went to the hospital and she fainted when he was getting his plaster cast put on. I wouldn't be too worried.
