Murderbot - AppleTV+

The books are really pretty good, each is relatively short but they tell some good stories and the character of murderbot is quite interesting and his inner monologue at times is very funny, and very (deservedly given what he is and how he is treated) cynical about humanity.

It's sort of like you might imagine the universe being if Wayland Yutani had a bunch of equally nasty competitors and Bishop was both more self aware and had been used to basically enforce slavery at various times and didn't really enjoy it/like being around humans because of how they look at him due to that.

If you've got a bit of free time it might be worth reading one of the books if you like the trailer :)

“Yes, talk to Murderbot about its feelings. The idea was so painful I dropped to 97 percent efficiency. I’d rather climb back into Hostile One’s mouth.”
“I didn’t care what humans were doing to each other as long as I didn’t have to a) stop it or b) clean up after it.”

This looks interesting to me, I've not read the series but I might pick up the audiobooks if there's any available.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of Apple but I have to admit that they're by far the most consistent streaming platform for quality productions imo. At least in terms of the sort of content that I enjoy, I can't think of any other platform with as many decent to high quality sci-fi productions under their belt and I'd even say that they're actually reasonably priced by comparison to Netflix.

Watched the first two. I think it captures the essence of the books very well so far. I'd still prefer the actor for Murderbot to be more androgynous like they're described in the book but I think Skarsgard is nailing the humour and awkwardness of the character, especially in the narrating.

Ep 1 done, really good, great writing and delivery. Ep 2 later this evening.

I'm not sure how they're doing it, there isn't really that much material to justify longer episodes. The books are 1 novel and 6 novellas really so far. I think the first season is just the first novella which is only 160 pages odd.

I just finished watching the first two episodes, really enjoyed them but I do wish they'd released the entire season in one go given the length of the episodes.

Unless they're releasing two per week I think I'll wait until the season is over before continuing.

Enjoyed the first episode, just wish Murderbot was a bit more deadpan, like in the audible version.

Enjoyed the first two episodes, was unfamiliar with the book series so I'll give that a go also now.
They are fun.

I got into them due to a short story on Tor.com (now reactormag.com) a while back, they're quite short books so they are fairly quick, fun reads, I'm hoping they do the series to at least System Collapse.
Murderbot's progress is fun to read, especially his interactions with Dr Mensah's family and ART.

For anyone that reads up to the end of "Network Effect" there is a very good AMV set to "I'm not your hero" that basically sets every line to a scene in the books roughly in order I think.

I know nothing of the books so I am really enjoying it so far. The short episodes are most welcome too.
