Murderbot - AppleTV+

Started this today, never read any books, only watched the trailer.

It's OK so far (after 2 episodes back to back), story doesn't seem to be up to much but will give it a couple more episodes before deciding (as they episodes are so short anyway).

Finished it now. Not really my thing. It was half way between comedy and weak sci-fi in the end, with nothing particularly unique in the story. Episode lengths were weird, as others mentioned, but as I semi binged it didn't matter too much.

5.5/10

We did the audible of the first novella (that this season of the show is based on) and really enjoyed it, a little bit more than the show tbh. The narrator's deadpan delivery of SecUnit was great.

I was looking at some other American TV, it seems that 20 minutes is the new 24 minutes, which was the new 28 minutes...

I sorta liked it at first but looking back on it overall, I wouldn't care if it was cancelled either.

Now if he had turned into killbot mode and wiped out everyone in the last episode with 10 seconds to go and then smiled on a cliff hanger, Id watch the 2nd season, otherwise its just the same as megan 2.0 or any other movie or sci-fi series as in predicable and boring.

While I don't really agree overall (certainly not with the Megan 2.0 comparison, did enjoy that movie as a bit of a guilty pleasure mind you) you're not entirely wrong.

I liked the show, hated how it was presented with 20ish minute segments. It'd have been more cohesive as a movie or mini-series of 3-4 longer episodes, or simply by them releasing everything in one shot. I'd absolutely watch a S2 but I'd not be heartbroken if it never happened either, it was a good show marred by presentation/release schedules. Apple is a company I hate but I do think they're the best Streaming platform for originals by a huge margin, and them experimenting with this sort of thing doesn't wind me up.
