Murray in Form

I was meaning perhaps Murray raises his game more against Federer than vice versa when they compete in an atp tournament.

We know how harder it is to play in a slam over the two weeks, Federer with his experience and raising him game feels he will beat Andy 99% of the time in a slam at the moment.

Completely agree, Fed will up his game next week he always seems to find an extra gear in the major slams and as you said his experience will help him. Just look at last year, murray had beaten him in an atp tournement only few weeks before the us open, fed hadn't won a grand slam all year, people questioning if he still had it, he plays an inform murray in the us open final and took him apart. Not to say I don't think he is playing mind games, he is and he knows that murray is a massive threat but fed does up his game in the big slams.

I think you are giving Fed too much credit - he never wants to lose, and he has been beaten 4 times in a row now by the same guy

Your thought would stand up if it had only been one or possibly two games he had lost - but it isnt, its pure mind games by Fed and nothing more (as Andrew Lloyd has recently said)

As Murry said in the link above, he's lost his fear of the bigger players. That along with his current form should see him do very well this year.

I still think Federer can and probably will pull it out of the bag when needed. This year will be a big turning point if not.

There's no doubt Federer doesn't like losing, but it's all very well Andy beating him in an weeks event, but Andy still has to prove to himself and everyone that he can beat Federer over five sets in the semis or final in a slam. Personally, I'm still questioning if Andy has the fitness level to win a slam this year, regardless of how much he has improved his fitness over the last year or so.

1stly AM has proved he can beat Fed in straight sets - whether its a minor event or not, thats three sets (best of five) which AM can do without doubt

The one person he doesnt have to prove it to is himself as he wouldnt be out there if he did (no sportsman would)

Maybe you should check out AM training in the scorching mid-day sun in Melbourne this past week - there is no way you can question his fitness if you had seen that

Im not saying he will definitely do it in Melbourne, Im not even saying he will be a definite finalist (as Nadal is at the 1/4 or semi stage if AM gets that far) but he deserves the credit to be believed that he is capable of getting and winning the final - and I would be very surprised (without a major injury hampering him) that sometime this year AM doesnt do one better than the US Open 2008

Shame Nadal got injured as it could have been a cracker but also Murray was playing with a dodgy ankle.

Until Nadal called for an injury timeout to his left knee, Murray was playing pretty good.

Well done to Murray - he deserved that and puts shame on some comments made at the Aussie Open by players who should know better

Both where injured, but AM made the most of it

I knew Andy was having trouble with his ankle but I wasn't aware about Nadal having a problem with his knee before the game and eventually when he strained it in the second set.

The first set was high quality that it didn't look like either were carrying any niggles, as you said a testament to both players.

from what the commentators where saying its both knees. well done to andy murray, just wish he'd smile a bit more.
