Murray in Madrid final.

Murray has come on big time the last 9 months. It just a matter of time before he is up there with Nadal and Djorkovic. Grand Slam title 2009...i wouldn't bet against it.

I actually think AM is justifiably better than Djorkavic, just that AM had a couple of injuried when D was playing well at the beginning of the season which is why he is behind him

AM has grown much more as a player throughout this season, however D can still easily make a significant improvement over the winter, and next season will really be interesting

Fed really needs a rest, I expect him to come back next season and look a much better player than he has been recently - him and Nadal are the equiv of the Man Utd/Chelsea (with little between them) but there is a little gap between them and AM/Djorkovic (or Liverpool/Arsenal)

Tennis players can play one day then the next, you don't get the same aches and pains as other sports so just some good food and rest his opponent should be fine, will be a good match.

In this case it makes no difference as they only played a few hours apart - but imo it makes a huge difference in a semi or final if one of the players has had a full day of rest inbetween, and the other player has had two matches on consecutive days

If they're winning matches fairly comfortably then yes, they can play one day after the next with no problems.

I'm guessing that you've never watched Simon play before. His game depends on pretty much just keeping the ball in play rather than going for winners, therefore resulting in longer rallies. He doesn't play like Federer, who looks to end the rally as soon as possible.

Combine his style of play with the fact that all 5 of his matches this week have gone to 3 sets, 4 of them going right to the final set tiebreaker, and you'll realise that it really has been tough.

Good luck to Murray, I like him. He's got a bit of that McEnroe attitude and will to win and I like that in a sportsman. He's not there to make friends, he's there to win. I don't think a Grand Slam would be beyond him next year, he is getting up to Federer and Nadal's level now and next year providing he stays clear of injuries could see him take one of the big events.

Id say Tim was actually a better player. But Andy has confidence and has a better physchological attitude.

WHAT?? Tim Henman??? Murray is constantly troubling Feder and Nadal. You dont have to like him but he is absolute class, no doubt. He far and away outshined henman but obviously that doesnt sit well with "Tiger Tim" fans.

Oh no i wasnt saying that. Even the bbc commentators said. Murray is ofc going to be the better player come the time he retires himself. And i think Murray is looking a far stronge rplayer. But Tim Henman had the tools there. The technical side. But he just never got it all together. So yeah Murray is better. Just Tim Henman had a really good range of shots and when he did reach his form he could actually compete with anyone aka Murray style.

Tim Henman was a poor player who shone because we had no backup talents. He was never as good as our other 'British' player, Rusedski.
Murray has done more in his career than Henman ever did, he's a better player in every respect, stronger, faster, more shot selection and he can mix it with the best.

What? Henman was far from a poor player and he was certainly better than Rusedski. He reached 6 Grand Slam semi finals compared to Rusedski's 1 final, he finished in and around the top 10 more times than Rusedski, had the better head-to-head record (10-2), had the better career record and made more money.

Wrong. Henman was one of the best serve-and-volley players around, Murray isn't even close to reaching his ability in and around the net.

Thats proven to be ****, simply because TH was ranked just as highly in the world listing for longer than Rusedski ever managed

IF we where just talking about British rankings you may have a point - however its world rankings against direct compatriots (as TH and GR where around for the most part at the same time) and TH did better over years compared to Greg

Admittedly tennis rankings are based on defending points the player gained from the previous season, but even so - there is no way you can say he was a lot worse (Wiki states onlyyear ending with TH being in the world top ten for four years, and only making top 6 at his peak although Im positive he got in the top five mid-year several times matching GR's best result)

While I would agree with that - AM is a better all round player, and better on multiple court surfaces

Well done Andy - but its a concern how he didnt really go for the game and only really seemed to come alive in the tie break

Simon played well considering he sounded exhausted, sounded like Andy hardly got out of 2nd gear

(obviously it doesnt matter now as he won, but being a final you should be playing your best no matter what imo)

Another Masters Series title for Andy - well done to him.

I find it a bit strange that he's still going to be playing in St Petersburg next week. What with the Paris Masters Series coming up straight after it, and the Masters Cup a week after Paris, surely he should give himself every chance of winning the bigger events.

Results suggest that he is THE form player of the past 6-8 weeks. Therefore he has a great shot at winning in Paris aswell. I just think that he shouldn't play in Russia incase he tires himself out for the 2 bigger tournaments left on his calendar, which he is more than capable of winning.

Congratulations on the win and becoming the first British player to win four Masters events in the open era. I hope he can keep progressing as he has now and stay injury free.

This was only Murray's 2nd Masters Series win.

He probably has broken some kind of British tennis record with this win, but it isn't that.

he won in St Petersburg last year so has some points to defend and because he has already entered, he would actually get a penalty for withdrawing this late.
