Music; where did it all go wrong?

To add, there was just as much PAP around then, babylon zoo's space man springs to mind instantly when i think of Oasis, funny that how an era can imprint itself so deeply, the two have nothing to do with each other than they were released in the same decade!

You could name any pap and you pick Babylon Zoo??? They were highly underrated and their songs still sound pretty fresh today.

Edit: Having read that again I can't tell if you're saying that or not :p

Probably a bad example now i look at it, there music was interesting so i suppose it is enough to separate them form the gash, fresh today is a little bit of a stretch though :D

Music seems to be manufactured these days based on a winning formula designed to make money very quickly short term. It's probably linked to less physical sales (CDs and records) and more piracy. You can't be creative unless you own the record label and can afford to be.

You can though, if your good you music will make it into the public domain, the problem is that bands today dont have the balls, there either there for the music or the money, if it is the music they will shine as long as they are god, if its the money they will play it safe and churn crap out.

For me, (and if you're thick you can cry racist on me) the rot startedin this country at the turn of the millennium with the start of the dreadful "UK Garage" genre and the rise of "RnB" becoming the default as far as pop is concerned.

We've had rubbish music for almost as long as there has been music... Check out Henry Vlll's attempts at choral work. And that was only 400 years ago.

Face it, it's because you're getting old.

When you were growing up how many times did your elders say " PAH... The music these days.... back in my day we had decent music .... "

:)

For me personally my genres cover 4 decades but to be fair there are some really talented artists out there, if anything some of the stuff is very technical and innovative. The only problem is that you won't find it on the box or a radio station near you.

You're not wrong but it's been going on forever.
My biggest musical time was the early 70s where I had The Sweet, Slade, Suzi Quattro, T.Rex and a load of similar manufactured music.
Offset at the same time with the manufactured disco pap that came out.
My Dad was listening to the manufactured late 50s and 60s pop music.
My kids listen to the many manufactured Indie bands and other artists like Florence.
