I installed my beta version of Vista and the internet works fine apart from www.google.co.uk and www.msn.com.
I can ping them but i can't view them in firefox or IE7.

I have tried disabling the Firewall to no avail.

Does anyone have any ideas ?

Does anyone have any idea about what may be causing this. Messenger doesn't seem to want to work either.

No Force9, I had to reduce my MTU or was it the MRU on XP to get a website a while back.

The internet is fine in XP still

If you've reduced it in XP, reducing it in Vista might be a good idea...

I used a portable app to change it a while back. Do you know where the key is in the vista registry ?

BUMP,

DNS

Looks like a DNS issue,

Configure the workstation to point to a DNS server, probebly something that you ISP provides. Configure your work station with static routing to the router as well.

But 90% sure its a DNS issue.

Try opening up a command prompt and issuing the following commands :-

telnet www.google.co.uk 80.

telnet www.msn.com 80.

If you get a message back saying connection could not be established then its some sort of network issue. Try using another PC with XP, if it works then its something to do with the network settings on Vista, try changing the MTU.

If you get a message back saying unable to resolve hostname its a DNS issue.

If this works and you get some HTML output back, then its a problem with your browser/proxy settings.

How could it be a DNS issue if they can be pinged - which first of all requires a succesful lookup.

'telnet' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

It would appear telnet doesn't work in Vista

Its nothing to do with DNS

Obviosly not.

How can you change the MTU value in Vista, Ive searched but found nothing.

It's not in the normal XP place.

Yep, telnet is no longer installed by default. No idea why:

Control Panel | Programs and Features | Turn Windows Features On or Off | Telnet Client

And you'll have it back.

google doesn't even have a set IP, it uses dns load balencing for the cluster :rolleyes:

I can do an nslookup on both sites so it isn't DNS.

It still uses an IP address :rolleyes:

But now it looks like a Network issue as the output states that. Just a question, are you using a router or a standard USB modem?

Can you take your PC to a friends house (assuming you have friends

) and test the internet connection there, using your friends username and pass?
