Must Read Books

Not wanting to start an arguement here but can I ask why you like this series?

Each to their own and everything but I found it painfully tedious to read, it was like a childs book "this happens, then that happens, then this happens, then that happens, then this happens et all"

There was no real development of anything in the book. I had it recomended to me by a friend who reads (almost) as much as me and couldn't beleive how poor it was, considering he was the bloke who got me into Robert Jordan and George R Martin, which on topic I would massively recomended to you OP. Pick up the first in both these series and you will be completely hooked!

As I say not looking for an arguement would just like to know what you personally enjoyed so much about the series?

I personally just enjoyed the whole story but I really liked the way the characters were written Belgarath for example he's all comically grumpy old man one minuite and then deadly serious master of the elements the next.

And I agree Robert Jordan & George martin are fantastic authors!

Plato - The Republic
Homer - The Iliad and The Odyssey
Dickens - A tale of two cities
Austen - Pride and Prejudice

All classics, can be heavy going to the casual reader, but all worth reading.

Marching Powder - A biography about a man kept in a Boleese prison

A what? :D

I love them too. Could read them again now. Can't really tell you why, it could be because I read them as a kid.

Surely everyone has read LotR anyway?

Wouldn't Bolivian be right, can't see that Boleese is the right gentilic!

No one at uni will be impressed with how well read you are, or seem to be, just so you know :p.

Work your way through something like this?

To be fair though, if you're doing it right, you shouldn't really have time to read what you want at uni. That, and getting into regular reading is a very good habit to take with you.

The Long Dry - Cynan Jones

A relatively short book which I think I picked up due to the cover art, it's left a lasting impression on me though and it one of my most recommended books so definately try and check it out.

Since he's looking for a list of classic books then I wouldn't be taking it for granted.

I'm pretty sure it would have to be Bolivian since that's how it is labelled in the book's website apart from the obvious point that something from Bolivia is Bolivian.

//edit Moses99 - it would be a waste if you are reading to impress others, read because you want to do it.

Was never my intention to impress people, I just very much enjoy reading with lots of spare time for once, I want to embrace that by reading books that are considered to be "must read".

I have already read things like LotR, The Road, Hitchhikers Guide (which I absolutely detest), 1984, etc etc but there are tonnes in here for me to add to my list. Thanks so much all :)
