Must stop buying take out food....

I’ve been told to cut down on buying take outs. I buy at least one take out a week, pizza, Chinese etc.. I’ve been known to even go out and buy KFC, just because I’m feeling peckish.

At around £20 a throw for the both of us, I’ve been told we need to stop it, but I don’t want to. Dominos Pizza tastes good, Chinese food tastes good. KFC is dirty and nasty but I want to buy it.

Anyone got good tips on how to stop buying junk food, take outs etc.? I’m spending around £100 - £120 a month on junk. My bin is always full of old pizza boxes, yet I’m so thin. Dominos know me by first name now..!! Speed dial for pizza

Neither of us in the house are putting weight on, yet we eat so badly. Even my dogs are eating badly. On top of the junk take outs, I also spend money on crisps, chocolate etc, and munch away when watching DVD’s. I have a full cooked dinner, and then still feel hungry…

What do you all spend in take out, monthly food bills etc.. ? Me, I’m running into around £400 a month for two of us. Plus doggy food..

I used to buy takeout 3 or 4 times a week, sometimes more.

I haven't ordered food to the house for weeks, and I haven't been to BK/Maccies except once on a friday morning when I was hung over for even longer.

All it needs is a bit of willpower.

My band and I have chinese every Saturday at the end of a writing session.

I'm getting sick of it and am thinking of taking a packed lunch to be honest :p

Don't you think take away (it's take away, not take out :o) is pointless after a while as the novelty wares off? I'd rather have a mix of proper food then a take away once a month at the most.

Take out, Take away all the same to me, it's easy overpriced food to me... :D

But no, I agree I've got to kick this habbit.. Been having take out (sorry take aways) for years, and I've got to stop it..

Hmm... I fancy a Pizza right now.. You think I'm joking, I honestly do want to go and buy a Pizza in my lunch break. I'm addicted to junk food...

I should be well over weight, but I'm not.

I don't think ordering take out once a week is that bad. As long as you are eating healthy for the rest of the days, then it is sometimes nice to treat yourself on a Friday/Saturday. If it's the money that's bothering you then try cut it down to once a month.

If you have the will power then buy some cook books and make somethings together. Trust me there are some lovely dishes out there, you just need to have the patience and interest to try it.

Why don't you start preparing some packed lunches to take to work for your dinner break? There's plenty of things you can do. Make some tuna pasta or something, put it in a tupperware tub and you'll be golden.

The problem is, I'm taking a packed lunch to work, eating this and still feeling hungry. We have cooked meals every night, yet we sit in front of the TV watching DVD's and eating yet more junk.

So it's not due to not eating proper meals. Take aways are costly, but I'm worried that I'm eating a chicken dinner, home cooked and then about 30 minutes afterwards tucking into a whole bar of whole nut, and a big bag of walkers crisps...

I've done this for years, but last night we both decided it's too much.. Need someway to balance this out..

all the fat and salt content of fast food will catch up with you in the end,you could try and make your own pizzas,at least they will be better for you and may help you wean off them.Try having some fruit or veg lying around the house to snack on as a first line of defence.Imagine what you could do with the £1200 savings this time next year

Try to only eat when you feel hungry.

You're just in the habit of snacking (on crap), if you didn't snack after what sounds like a decent evening meal then I don't think you'd miss the snacks at all.

I know what you mean, i'll have my tea and i'd be perfectly fine not eating anything for the rest of the night. But if i'm sat on the pootay reading these forums and someone mentions 'oh just sat down to watch a dvd with these awesome doughnuts' or something, then i'll think 'oh I fancy one of those..' and i'll go and find something to snack on, even though I don't necessarily want anything.

It's just down to willpower, try not to snack in the evenings for a couple of nights and evaluate if you feel any worse off from not doing so.

If you have to snack as you're peckish (hate that word) then get into eating some fruit and/or pulses and nuts, I love grapes and sunflower seeds.

You might not be gaining weight but your artery isn't thanking you for it, take aways are full of salt and fat, all that fat in KFC, cheese on Pizza, and chinese take away isn't as healthy as you think. They are nice as treats, I usually have one or 2 takeaways a month max.

Think of your body, and your wallet.

snacking on healthy food is better than not snacking at all, as it speed up your metabolism...your body knows its gonna get more food later so doesnt try storing it :)

Tom.

So basically we have both got to eat breakfast (healthy) take a packed lunch and then eat a good meal at night and that's it.

Well I'll try, we are not going to go out tonight or get take away, instead we are both going to cook, eat this and "Try" not to eat afterwards. Tomorrow, I'll get out of bed 20 mins early, and make breakfast before going to work.

We have got to stop it, not only is it costing but this comfort eating cannot be healthy... I only said that last night, plus the savings will be nice. always looking to cut down monthly outgoings..

thanks all..

maybe do a 3 course job? soup starter, meat and veg main, and some yogurts or something similar for dessert? sounds like a way to sort your stomach out!

I really dont think 1 takeaway a week is a problem, we have one on fridays and saturdays, but through the week i eat small lunches of usually pasta and on an evening a home cooked main meal usually with veg + i never snack and dont drink pop. I dont thnk its the takeaway thats the issue, if you stopped snacking on rubbish the takeawys could be seen as more of a treat. As for the cost £20 for a takeawy is quite steep, i suppsoe if u get chinese with a starter £20 is realsitic, our usually cost £12 max, for either a curry or pizza.
