MX-5 help & advice

Wow looks fantastic. Love the iPod idea - does it chargre it as well? :)

Charges as well :). You can also plug in a USB flash drive/hard drive and the head unit will play any MP3s, WMAS & AACs on the device, browsing through using the head units display. It's a shame the door speakers are so awful, but my MX-5 budget for the month has run dry so I'll have to wait to swap them.

Other way, you can't make it look newer :)

Why's that "other way"? That's exactly what I just said. Reading comprehension - do you have it?

Anyway, curiosity satisfied. That's a lovely looking car. I hope to get one myself in a year or two. MX5 or an MR2.

Clean on the outside now to :). I left it too late to clay bar it today but I'm going to make sure it's done next time.

Thought I'd update this thread as I haven't in a while. The interior is 95% complete to my satisfaction, granted it wont be to everyones taste but I love it! (Didn't manage to clean the inside before taking pic!)

The exterior has changed been de-tango'd and the number plate is now mounted differently

Subtle changes outside but they make it look much better IMO.

Bought my mk2 back in November for a bargain £1,300. Needs a new hood, so I'm going to take a drive down to Jack Smith's in Swansea where they'll fit the high quality mohair hood for £260 all in.

Went for a drive around the Lakes on Saturday with the top down. Absolutely glorious. :)

£2k will get you a mint mk1, £2.5k will get you a reasonable earlier mk2. I myself much prefer the mk1, it's a much more classic design and it's more raw and fun :)

I'm quite surprised by this, would quite like a mk1 MX5, I just assumed all the cheaper ones were going to be sheds.

The changes you've made to the interior of that car make a world of difference.
Nice work. :)

Interior parts look a bit too shiny for my liking, it would be distracting me too much if the sun shines off it too when the roof is down :p

Another update! My MX-5 is due to go to The MX-5 Restorers on the 06/08/11 for the following work:
  • full inspection/health check to bring to light any potential 'problems' (and repaired accordingly)
  • Sill & arch rust repair (Cut out and replaced, not patching)
  • Full respray
  • Alloy wheel refurbishment
  • Underseal & Waxoyl treatment
  • New Berkeley badges made up.

Before committing I decided to visit the team which was well worth it. I left feeling reassured that my pride and joy will be left in very capable hands! I'm eagerly awaiting the 6/08/11 when I'll be parting with my '5 for a few weeks :(.

I'll be sure to post back the results once the work has been completed. I have requested that pictures are taken to document the work so I can post them up on here.

Since my last update the following has been done:

1) I finally got round to installing power windows! £79 for the parts and free mates rates labour. The funny thing is all the wiring was already there waiting as the late MK1's used the same wiring looms regardless of whether manual or power windows were used. Was a simple job really

2) Installed an amp (Alpine two channel) in the boot and some decent component speakers (Vibe Lite Air) The tweeters are where the window winders used to be. I also bought a sound deadening kit which has made a big difference, not a hint of rattling even at full power. To my ears the bass sounds tighter as well. I haven't quite finished yet as the door cards need to be cut to accommodate the larger speakers.

3) The gloss has gone and has been replaced with a flocked interior. Although I liked the gloss black it was hard work to maintain.
