MX-5 Project log thread

Anymore updates on this? What's next for the car Howard?

Selling it, most likely.

Gonna wait for the suspension to (finally) be sorted out, and enjoy it for a bit up to summer, make sure it's all tip top, then advertise it probably.

I've had my fun with it, it's just a bit of an expensive occasional toy to be sitting around unused a lot of the time, could do with saving the money etc really. :)

Sounds about right tbh. Much as I love the car, I don't really have the inclination to spend loads more money on relatively insignificant improvements. I was thinking things like an exhaust, proper management, maybe a respray, but this will all cost a fortune, and is it really worth it?

Might as well let someone else who is after a well-sorted MX-5 have a go :)

OK so lately I've been a bit more motivated to do some bits and pieces, more updates will follow shortly, but in the mean time..

HELP ME DECIDE!

OTHER??

:D

Leaning towards black or red, and I'm half tempted to replace the blue hoses...

I'll (well a friend of mine will, I suck at that aspect of Photoshopping) give it a go, good idea. The colour is totally undecided yet, but I'm going to be re-furbing the cam cover as I change the gasket so I was just pondering what colour to paint it :)

Are you still thinking about selling your 5 Howard? My CTR is hopefully going this month, then in a few months time I'm going for an mx5 so may be interested :)

Now that the good weather is back and hopefully to stay, it's sort of re-kindled my love for it, so I'm not sure. Maybe later in the year, maybe I'll have another year out of it. You only live once. Will see how much the insurance renewal is, among other factors. I'll keep this thread up to date either way :)

I certainly don't have any problems handling it.. It's not THAT fast anyway and it's only got 165bhp. I love driving it and I love 'provoking' it. My main reason for selling was just 'moving on' and saving a bit of money.. Like Firestar said, half the fun can be the upgrade path and once this is done and you've had your enjoyment out of driving it, there's no point keeping it if you don't want to.

But I haven't decided really, yet.. :p

Well like I said before I've felt motivated to do a few more bits and pieces, and today's weather was ideal for the next job..

You'll have to excuse the state of the arches, I hadn't cleaned Salisbury Plain off them at this point.

Mmm shiny new bits

Front offside, old hose

Was a bit of a pain to get the hose undone from the mounting bracket and solid pipe at this point, there's a spring clip that you have to remove once you slacken the union nut (mole-grips were required for this due to the fact they probably haven't been removed in 21 years) and then the rust holds the flexi-hose into the bracket :D

It came out though..

Shiny new hose fitted.. Looks pro

Same deal on the nearside rear, but you have to remove some of the arch liner in order to get to it effectively

Slightly different on the offside rear, this is where the distribution block for the rear brakes is.. It's easier in fact than the other corners.

Soaked in WD40 prior to removal

Old manky hoses

I then bled the hell out of it until nary a tiny bubble could be seen, and took it for a test run. The brakes are now ferocious, the pedal is rock hard and there's none of the spongy feel, and it seriously dumps speed quickly with no fading unlike with the god-knows-how-many-years-old fluid :)
