MX-5 Project log thread

I've had some time off work this week and my replacement cam cover arrived so I've been working on cleaning it up, prepping it and painting it, and swapping it over, I'm very pleased with the result! Read on..

Take one dirty old cam cover..

Pressure wash the hell out of it to remove loose oil, deposits and crap...

Degrease and sand the hell out of it in order to make it nice and smooth (it doesn't look as clean in this picture as it was)..

3.jpg

A few thin coats of primer..

A few thin coats of red paint... Oh yeah

All finished, new gasket applied, ready to bolt on!

This is the engine bay after fitting all the black hoses to replace the blue ones, and cleaning up the inlet manifold and supercharger..

I'm really pleased with the finish, it looks fantastic and matches the bodywork nicely. Looks a lot more 'factory' wtih that + the black hoses now I think!

There's a bit of crunching as the weight is loaded onto the jacks but they're solid as a rock really. I just have to use a bit of wood under the trolley jack, and the stones go everywhere when you're crawling around on the floor doing stuff

Wheels go under the car out of habit

Well after much deliberation I've finally bitten the bullet and put it up for sale. It just doesn't get a whole lot of use nowadays and with priorities shifting and the need to save more money, it's an expensive toy to sit on the driveway 5-6 days a week. It's been fun and it'll sure be painful to see it go :( (assuming someone buys it, lol)

Nooo :( Or are you going to buy an Elise instead? ;)

Nope :(
Not right now anyway

Would you not be better off splitting it up a bit? Those wheels and the super charger would be worth a lot more not on the car?

Completely unrelated but would the SC and it's bits fit on my MK2? ;)

I don't think the value would be much different either way to be honest, certainly based on what I've seen other 'charged MX5s up for.

And the SC would, yes ;) You'd need to source mounting and pipework 'n stuff though.

Fair point about Housey etc, I just didn't wanna rock the boat!

I've got someone coming to look at it tonight if the weather holds out.. Which it doesn't look like it's going to at the moment :(

I don't really know what's required for a 1.8 conversion tbh, it's a Jackson Racing kit with the Eaton M45 charger, I guess you'll need brackets, tensioners / pulleys, a belt, associated pipework and management.
